Bajío vs North for merch production in Mexico
Compare the Bajío and the North for merch: Querétaro, SLP, Guanajuato against Monterrey, Saltillo and Chihuahua; labor cost and transit time.
Costs and suppliers by venue
Mexico City is not priced like Monterrey, and Monterrey is not priced like Tijuana. This section brings together fourteen side-by-side comparisons in MXN, VAT 16% included and freight to destination, with the same traceability we use to quote our clients.
The national territory cannot be treated as a single merch market. A 180 gram ring-spun t-shirt, embroidered with the corporate crest, costs different amounts depending on whether the loading dock is at Centro Citibanamex in Polanco, Cintermex in San Pedro Garza García, Expo Guadalajara, or the Boulevard Abelardo L. Rodríguez in Tijuana. The difference is not small: overland freight from the workshop to the venue can move between four and eighteen percent of the total cost depending on the destination, and computerized embroidery labor ranges from 38 MXN per square inch in Mexico City to 26 MXN in Saltillo, with no difference in Madeira thread quality or in the operator's skill.
The region also changes the price of subcontracted freight under Carta Porte 3.0. The Mexico City to Puebla leg is priced at 14 MXN per kilogram with same-day delivery on a working Sunday; the Mexico City to Tijuana leg runs over federal highway in 48 to 72 hours at roughly 9 MXN per kilogram, plus tolls; Cancun is reached by air freight out of AICM Terminal 2 with DHL or Estafeta, volumetric pricing and delivery to the hotel zone in 18 to 36 hours. Each destination carries its own economy, and a brief that looks generic ends with numbers that mislead if it is quoted against a different venue.
This section is not a city guide: it is an introduction to the regional differences that determine the final cost of corporate merch in Mexico. Each card compares two venues within a specific product category, with numbers observed on orders from the last quarter and a breakdown of VAT 16%, freight and freight window. The fourteen comparisons were selected from real requests received in Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Tijuana over the last fiscal year, complemented with the regulatory compliance lens: IMMEX for export-component orders, LFPDPPP for kits that include personal data, and cross-border logistics for Tijuana and Mexicali.
Each comparison was built with Corp-Merch.MX production data, verified supplier quotes and technical literature covering NMX, ISO 105, ASTM D5034 and NOM-004 on textile labelling. The numbers were observed on orders closed between the second quarter of last year and the first quarter of the current year, adjusted by the cotton-polyester blend inflation reported by SNIIM and by the FIX exchange rate published by Banxico when the input is imported under a pedimento.
The common framework across the fourteen cards has five columns: product, typical quantity per order, unit cost in MXN with VAT included for the base venue (Mexico City), unit cost for the compared venue, percentage difference and delivery time in working days. When freight is by air or subcontracted, the breakdown adds three more columns: volumetric or per-kilogram rate, Carta Porte 3.0 when applicable, and the dock window at the venue or corporate office. The cards are not a substitute for a formal quote: they help the buyer understand what moves the number and which lever can be pulled to adjust it.
The fourteen cards are arranged in seven regional pairs. Each pair compares Mexico City with the second venue and ends with the same operating recommendation: when it pays to produce at a local workshop, when it pays to produce at the Mexico City hub and ship by freight, and when it pays to produce under IMMEX maquila at the border. The navigation between cards runs by category (textile, ceramic, premium, border, compliance).

If your next order is bound for any of the fourteen regions covered in this section, or for a different venue (Huatulco, Ixtapa, Los Cabos, Puerto Escondido, Cozumel, Bacalar, Palenque, San Cristobal de las Casas, Campeche, Chetumal, Villahermosa, Oaxaca), reach out. We send a formal quote in under twenty-four working hours with at least three options per line item, VAT 16% breakdown, Carta Porte 3.0 freight when applicable, and delivery by day and shift to the dock of your venue. If your purchase exceeds fifty thousand MXN, we assign a project coordinator from start to finish and reconcile any freight or toll deviation before invoicing.

If you have a buying decision that requires comparison between a venue not listed and Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara or Tijuana, send us the context and we open a new card within the Corp-Merch.MX editorial calendar. We also accept requests from companies that want to co-author a comparison when they operate in the same industrial cluster and want to publish their evaluation methodology.
