Briefs · Sourcing · Comparisons

How we take a brief and select suppliers

Two methods, applied at opposite ends of an order. The first decides how a brief is written so that quotations from different workshops can be compared without interpretation. The second decides which workshop runs the production, on the criteria that actually predict whether the delivery will be right. Neither is secret, and both are described here because a client who understands them can tell when a quote is being written carefully.

The two methods

Brief methodology. A quotation is only as good as the brief behind it, and a brief written in adjectives produces a quotation full of assumptions. The method fixes the required fields — product, specification, decoration, quantity, delivery address, required date and the invoicing entity — and states which of them must be explicit rather than indicative. A brief missing one of those does not get a faster answer; it gets a slower one.

Supplier selection. Workshops are qualified against the product and the run, not against a general reputation. A workshop good at embroidery in runs of 5,000 is not automatically right for 80 hand-finished caps. Selection weighs capacity for that specific run, in-line quality control, decoration capability for the chosen method, and the freight route to the destination — with the workshop that did the sample and the workshop that does the production both in the conversation.

What the methods require

  • Explicit specification. Fabric, dimensions, decoration and labelling written as numbers.
  • Quantity per size or per variant. A total alone hides the problem that breaks production.
  • A named destination. Postal code and consignee, because freight is part of the lead time.
  • A real required date. And the event date behind it, when there is one.
  • The invoicing entity. Legal name and RFC, which decide the invoice and the tax treatment.
  • Artwork status. Vector file or approved reference, before the sample rather than after.

What we are not

Corp-Merch.MX is an independent production workshop for corporate merch, uniforms and business gifting, invoicing to SAT under CFDI 4.0. These methods describe our own working process. We are not an accreditation body, a standards organisation or an auditor, and we do not certify any supplier named by a client or on this site.

Send us a brief

You do not need a finished brief to start. Send what you have — product, quantity, date and destination — and we will tell you which fields are still missing before we quote, rather than filling them in ourselves and guessing.
