Engineering team onboarding kits for Mexican tech offices
Engineering hires in Mexico arrive with strong opinions about what should be in the kit. A 13" or 15" MacBook sleeve, a quality mechanical-pencil-style pen, a dot-grid notebook, a Nomad or Bellroy-grade cable organiser, a 500 ml stainless bottle that survives the developer's backpack, a heavy-weight cotton tee they can wear on Friday. We assemble engineering onboarding kits for the Mexican offices of US tech companies (Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, Apple, Oracle, Cisco, IBM, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Stripe, Uber, Airbnb, LinkedIn), the Mexican-headquartered tech companies (Kavak, Bitso, Clip, Konfio, Stori, Clara, Albo, Nu Mexico, Conekta, Mercado Libre Mexico) and the engineering centres of the financial-services groups (BBVA Mexico, Santander Mexico, Banorte, Banregio, HSBC Mexico, Scotiabank Mexico), in volumes from 25 pieces for a quarterly boutique-onboarding cycle to 2,500 pieces for the annual engineering cohort. CFDI 4.0 with 16% IVA, USD commercial invoice for US-headquartered procurement teams.
Why the engineering onboarding kit has three distinct layers
The engineering hire arrives with three information needs and three consumption patterns. Information needs: the team charter, the platform overview, the onboarding schedule, the mentor's contact, the office map. Consumption patterns: the laptop-sleeve and the cable organiser are used daily, the technical notebook is used in the working sessions, the tee is worn on Friday and the weekend, the regional product is taken home to the family.
Three layers map cleanly to these needs. A practical layer (laptop sleeve, bottle, notebook, pen, cable organiser) used daily and seen by colleagues. A brand layer (tee, hoodie, cap) worn in the office and at the Friday demo. A recognition layer (welcome card from the VP, hand-signed note from the mentor, small local gift) that personalises the moment. The three layers can be tuned to the budget: a 25-piece boutique tier, a 250-piece standard tier and a 1,000+ piece volume tier with each layer scaled accordingly.
What goes into each engineering kit
Practical layer (developer essentials)
13" or 15" recycled-polyester laptop sleeve or vegan-leather portfolio, 500 ml NOM-251 compliant stainless bottle with laser-engraved logo, A5 stone-paper notebook with dot-grid pages, brass-engraved technical pen, branded cable organiser. Range USD 48–95 per kit on the standard tier.
Brand layer (engineering apparel)
Heavy-weight (220gsm+) garment-dyed tee in the team's primary colour with the team's identity (no marketing tagline), french-terry hoodie for the winter cohort, embroidered cap for the field engineers and the DevOps on-call, optional branded vest for the data-engineering team. Range USD 28–95 per kit.
Recognition layer (welcome and local)
Welcome card hand-signed by the engineering VP or the engineering director, founder letter for the heritage editions, small Mexican regional product (Oaxacan chocolate, vanilla from Papantla, amate bookmark from Guerrero, regional coffee from Chiapas) for the local anchor, optional branded desk nameplate or badge. Range USD 18–48 per kit.
Logistics layer (kit assembly and delivery)
Kitting at the partner workshop in Iztapalapa or Escobedo, individual pick-and-pack by employee name with no PO number on the carton, hand-delivery to the office reception desk or shipped to the engineer's home address across CDMX, Monterrey, the Guadalajara tech corridor and the remote hubs. CONFIRMADO coordination with the office manager for the cohort arrival date.
Production window and invoicing
A 250-piece engineering onboarding kit runs 21–28 working days from brief approval: 5 days for creative and proof, 14 days for production and personalisation, 5 days for kitting and delivery to the office. For the larger 2,500-piece annual engineering cohort, the window opens 60 days in advance with a single point of contact assigned for the duration of the run.
For US-headquartered engineering procurement teams that procure from the US and pay the Mexican supplier in USD, we issue the commercial invoice in USD with the bank wire instructions to our Mexico bank account, and we deliver the corresponding CFDI 4.0 in MXN with 16% IVA itemised to the Mexican operating entity, so the local tax team has the document for their IVA-acreditable calculation. For the Mexican operating entity that pays directly, the CFDI 4.0 carries the local RFC, Razón Social, Régimen Fiscal and the CFDI uso defined by the engineering team's tax advisor. For maquiladora operations under the IMMEX programme, the engineering onboarding kit is procured locally and does not require IMMEX paperwork.
FAQ — engineering team onboarding kits
Do you assemble to a list of new-hire names?
Yes. Each kit is picked-and-packed against a manifest of employee names, hire date, office city and team (frontend, backend, data, ML, DevOps, QA). The manifest is encrypted end-to-end, and the carton carries no PO number on the outside. We can also pack per office, per team or per cohort for the larger runs.
Can we bill in USD if the US parent procures from the US?
Yes — we issue a commercial invoice in USD with wire instructions to our Mexico bank account. The corresponding CFDI 4.0 in MXN with 16% IVA goes to the Mexican operating entity so the local tax team has the IVA-acreditable document. The USD/MXN rate is fixed at the invoice date.
Do you ship the kit to the engineer's home address?
Yes — for remote-onboarding cohorts we ship via Estafeta, FedEx Mexico or DHL Mexico with tracking and signature on delivery. The recipient receives the kit 1–2 days before their start date. For office-based cohorts we hand-deliver to the reception desk and stage by team.
Can we change the contents between teams?
Yes — on the standard tier we run two variants per cohort (e.g. frontend vs. backend, junior vs. senior). On the volume tier we run a single SKU. We assemble on a rolling manifest with the latest hire list locked at the production gate.
Request an engineering onboarding kit quote
Send the cohort volume, office city or cities, the three layer budgets (practical / brand / recognition), the hire start dates and the team's brand identity references. We prepare a tiered proposal with per-kit cost, kitting fees, delivery logistics and the CFDI / USD billing split.
