Salon L-6: the room where the cross-dock coordinator decides which pallet crosses the dock first and the forklift driver kit lands before the day's last container
Salon L-6 is a cross-dock operations room in a wholesale distribution centre: 95-inch touchscreen with the real-time WMS, backup projector, 28 planning stations in a horseshoe with dual screens, video conferencing to the national CEDIS network, round-the-clock coffee service, dock with night access for unloading trailers, audio system with individual mics to record the session. Daily cross-dock planning sessions run here, along with pre-peak season briefings with destination vendor presence, capacity committees with the brand owner of the freight, optimisation sessions with the WMS vendor, and month-end sessions with the CEDIS director. What sets Salon L-6 apart is not the staging (which is austere and operational) but the rotation speed: every merch piece has to land signed for by the receiving forklift driver, exit with the warehouse control sheet, and let the day's planning close without merch logistics delaying the first unloading.
