The Palacio de Bellas Artes is the country's most emblematic cultural venue, on Avenida Juarez in the Alameda Central, steps from the Museo Mural Diego Rivera and Hotel Hilton, with capacity close to 1,900 in general concert format, 1,400 in numbered-seat gala format and 1,200 in amphitheater format for acoustic sessions. It operates as permanent home for the Opera de Bellas Artes, the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez, the National Symphony Orchestra, the National Dance Company seasons and the Bellas Artes gala concerts. It also receives international opera tours, European and Russian classical ballet tours, symphony season concerts, benefit functions of the Society of Friends of the Palace, cultural industry awards and editorial launches with diplomatic presence. The Palacio de Bellas Artes sits on Avenida Juarez in the Alameda Central of Mexico City, with main access from the Avenida Juarez gate, service entrance from Angela Peralta street and limited underground parking. In general concert format capacity is close to 1,900 with orchestra, principal boxes and upper stand. In numbered-seat gala and opera format it is reduced to 1,400 seats with better stage visibility. In amphitheater format for acoustic sessions it is reduced to 1,200 seats with improved stage visibility. The main foyer operates as foyer with murals by Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Rufino Tamayo —the only space in the world where murals by the four great Mexican muralists can be seen in the same place.
The Palacio de Bellas Artes operation is run by the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) in coordination with the Opera de Bellas Artes, the National Dance Company, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, the Society of Friends of the Palace and the official sponsors. Venue rental is managed through the seasonal calendar and aligned with INBAL programming. The Palacio operates under a mixed regime: official INBAL programming, international opera and ballet tours with promoter box office, benefit functions with the Society of Friends, cultural awards and editorial launches with diplomatic presence. The venue operation is complemented by external services such as technical audio production for symphony orchestra, stage lighting for opera and ballet, broadcast recording, multiple dressing rooms, orchestra pit and logistics for official sponsors.
