Reviews from startups and scale-ups in CDMX, Guadalajara and Monterrey

Recurring observations from the startups and scale-ups we work with in CDMX, Guadalajara and Monterrey: onboarding kits, event merch, team recognition, pieces for corporate customers and brand campaigns. What they value and where they push for improvement.

Onboarding kits for growing companies

Growing startups — between twenty and two hundred people — run onboarding kits for each new joiner. The typical kit includes a t-shirt, mug, notebook, backpack or tote bag, plus an accessory — thermos, headphones, USB, charger. Delivery goes to the joiner in their first week, normally in a branded box with a sticker and a letter from the CEO. Typical volume is five to forty kits per month, on a rolling calendar with individual replacements.

Seed-stage startups run simpler kits — t-shirt, mug, notebook — with a tighter unit budget and less personalisation. Series A and B scale-ups run kits with more pieces and more personalisation — metallic thread embroidery, laser engraving, rigid box packaging with magnetic closure. CFDI 4.0 invoicing is per order with breakdown by line, and when the startup runs multiple legal entities, with breakdown by entity.

Merch for product and brand events

Startups handle merch for product launches, sector conferences, hackathons, internal demos, recruitment fairs and open houses. The typical deliverable is a t-shirt, tote bag and tech accessory — USB with deck, power bank, headphones, bluetooth speaker. Typical volume is one hundred to six hundred pieces per event with tight deadlines — five to ten business days when the customer needs a fast turnaround.

For in-venue events we coordinate delivery with the venue's dock window, the customer's operations lead and the customer's on-site representative. Billing is per event with breakdown by product line and, where applicable, by cost centre. For recurring events — when a startup runs two or more events per quarter — we hold an annual calendar with capacity reservations.

Team recognition

Startups run recognition for tenure, contribution, internal promotion and round closing. Typical pieces are embroidered t-shirts, patched jackets, laser-engraved acrylic trophies, engraved jugs, personalised mugs, hand-bound notebooks. Typical volume is five to fifty pieces per recognition event, with five to fifteen business days lead time.

For startups that just closed a round — seed, Series A, Series B — we run celebration kits with commemorative pieces: t-shirt with the closing date, mug with the raised amount, investor kit with thermos, notebook and t-shirt. Delivery goes to the internal team and to the investors on the cap table. Billing is per order with breakdown by recipient when the customer requires it.

Pieces for the startup's corporate customers

B2B startups handle merch for their corporate customers — gifts for participants in a beta programme, kits for attendees at a working breakfast, pieces for year-end gifting. The most requested piece is the t-shirt or hoodie with the startup logo in a discreet tone, followed by the tote bag, thermos and stationery set. Typical volume is fifty to three hundred pieces per programme.

For startups delivering merch in enterprise programmes with NDAs — a pilot with a large corporate, a beta with a financial customer, a joint design programme — we handle invoicing under the corporate customer's name when the startup acts as intermediary, or under the startup's name when it owns the programme. CFDI 4.0 invoicing uses the RFC and tax address the customer requires.

Pieces for founders and for the office

Startups handle merch for the founders and for the office space — t-shirts for the founding team, hoodies with logo for office Fridays, mugs for the coffee bar, individual placemats for the boardroom. Typical volume is twenty to one hundred pieces per category, with replacements every six to twelve months depending on team growth.

For founders attending ecosystem events — Y Combinator, TechCrunch Disrupt, Web Summit, local conferences, all-hands with investors — we run pieces with careful presentation: raw cotton bag packaging, sewn label with size and care, card with the product's story. Billing is per order with breakdown by line and recipient.

What startups value

The most repeated point is response speed. Startups move fast and need the workshop to respond with the same speed. When a startup asks for a quote, we respond within four business hours. When they ask for samples, we deliver them within five business days. When they confirm the order, production kicks off within two business days.

The second point is flexibility for small quantities. Startups request short runs — twenty-five to one hundred pieces — and need the workshop to handle them with the same quality as large runs. We accept short runs with an adjusted cost curve, no low-volume penalty. When the customer grows, unit cost naturally drops with volume.

The third point is friction-free advance payment. Startups usually operate on advance payment or fifteen-day terms. We accept SPEI bank transfer, corporate card payment, debit card payment when the amount is under twenty thousand MXN, and platforms like Mercado Pago, Stripe and Bitso when the customer prefers to pay in crypto or stablecoins. CFDI 4.0 invoicing arrives within two business days of payment.

What they push us to improve

The most recurring improvement request is integration with their operations stack. Startups run on Slack, Notion, Linear, Asana or Jira. We integrate order status via webhooks into their stack so the operations lead does not have to open an email or log in to the portal. Integration is done in under an hour once the customer shares their endpoint.

The second point is merch presentation. Startups are sensitive to presentation detail — packaging, label with the story, card with the QR. When the customer requires it, we deliver merch in premium packaging — rigid box, cotton bag, tissue paper with sticker — and presentation is quoted separately. For startups on tight budgets, we suggest standard packaging with upgrade options.

The third point is merch language. Startups with US and European customers need merch with English text or bilingual. We handle text in Spanish, English and bilingual combinations. When the text has accents or special Spanish characters, we validate that the type font supports the character before production. Validation is included in the quality plan.
