Frequently asked questions about merch quality
The questions that come from procurement teams, compliance officers and quality managers at multinational companies when they evaluate qualifying a Mexican workshop as a vendor. Concise answers, with the regulatory basis when applicable, and a direct channel to dig deeper.
About the applicable regulatory framework
The Mexican Official Standards that apply to corporate merch depend on the product type. For textiles, NOM-004-SCFI-2006 establishes commercial information requirements on the label: manufacturer or importer name and tax ID, country of origin, fibre composition in percentage, care instructions in Spanish, and size where applicable. For electrical and electronic articles such as power banks, USB drives, headphones and Bluetooth speakers, NOM-024-SCFI-2013 requires commercial information and, when the product connects to mains power, NOM-003-SCFI-2014 also applies for electrical safety.
When we pack sets with tequila, wine, mezcal, cider or rompope under NOM-141-SSA1-SCFI-2012, we verify denomination of origin, net content, alcohol grade, batch, expiration date, ingredients, warning legends and authorised producer details. We only work with beverages that have complete documentation, because a set with undocumented beverage exposes the end customer to a PROFECO sanction and a SSA callout.
About our internal quality management system
We operate under an internal quality management system aligned with ISO 9001:2015 principles: customer focus, leadership, people engagement, process approach, continuous improvement, evidence-based decision making and relationship management. Coverage runs from brief intake through to delivery of the finished product, with assigned owners per stage and traceable documentation.
When the customer requires third-party certification, we provide a workshop compliance letter, documented evidence of the system and references to suppliers with their own certifications. Formal ISO 9001 certification of our workshop depends on scope and customer volume — talk to us about your case.
About quality control during production
Quality control is applied at five points along the process. Fabric inspection: weight, colour against Pantone, weave defects and shrinkage verified before cutting. Pre-print: colour separation against approved artwork, tension test and registration. In-line: review of every printed, embroidered or sublimed garment — uniforms with correct colour and placement, no visible defects. Post-production: assembly, seams, labels, individual packing. Pre-pack: random lot sampling, size verification, packing by recipient block.
For runs above one thousand units the in-line quality control includes AQL sampling under ISO 2859-1 level 2.5 or 4.0 depending on the product type. For short runs under one hundred units the inspection is one hundred per cent manual by the quality control team. When products have critical tolerances — exact colour, fine registration, finished packaging — we run a pilot batch of five to ten units before the full production run.
About non-conformities, complaints and returns
When an order shows a non-conformity — print defect, colour out of spec, wrong size, damaged packaging, delivery delay — we log the incident, identify root cause, define corrective and preventive action and notify the customer with resolution options: replacement at no cost, credit note for the next order, or return with refund. Incident traceability is kept in our system for at least three years for audit purposes.
For corporate customers with their own quality system we deliver 8D or equivalent format with root cause analysis, corrective action and effectiveness verification. The turnaround is five to ten business days depending on the incident complexity. When the incident is attributable to the customer — artwork approved incorrectly, sizes collected wrongly, incomplete brief — the repeat policy applies with discount and the lesson learned is documented for the next brief.
About documented evidence
For corporate customers with their own quality system we deliver, within forty-eight business hours of the request, the following documentation: product technical sheet, certificate of origin, laboratory test certificate where applicable, workshop compliance letter, evidence of NOM compliance, and non-conformity format with its resolution where applicable. This documentation normally covers vendor homologation formats of companies certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Evidence is delivered by encrypted email or through the customer's document management platform. When the evidence requires an original signature, we hand-deliver with signed acknowledgement in CDMX, Guadalajara and Monterrey, and via courier with acknowledgement for the rest of the country.
About logistics and delivery
Delivery logistics are part of the quality system. When we deliver to corporate sites with access protocol, we align to the schedule, the access point, the receiving owner and the acknowledgement format the customer requires. When we deliver to events — conventions, fairs, roadshows, launches — the owner in each plaza coordinates with the customer the dock window, the ramp, the booth number and the on-site consignee.
The tracking number and the signed acknowledgement are part of the delivery. When the customer requires appointment delivery with on-site staff for unloading or storage placement, this is quoted separately based on the number of units, days required and destination. Logistics coverage includes CDMX and metropolitan area, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Querétaro, Puebla, León, Mérida, Tijuana, Cancún and other plazas with additional cost.
FAQ — supplementary block
What happens if production comes out defective?
We log the incident, identify the root cause and notify the customer with resolution options. For manufacturing defects replacement at no cost or credit note applies. For customer errors the repeat policy with discount applies.
Can you deliver a physical sample before production?
Yes. The pre-production physical sample is quoted separately between 350 and 1,200 MXN per unit plus shipping, and allows validation of Pantone colour, embroidery gauge or print registration before the full production run.
Do you handle bilingual English-Spanish labelling?
Yes. Bilingual labelling is common for corporate customers with operations in the southern United States under USMCA, and is quoted as an add-on to the packaging project.
Do NOM standards update? How do I know?
Yes, NOM standards are updated periodically by the Secretaría de Economía and the Secretaría de Salud. We recommend verifying the current version at the time of each quote. We notify you when an applicable NOM changes.
Request documented quality information
If you are a corporate customer with your own quality system and require documented evidence for homologation, let's talk. We deliver the documentation your vendor formats normally require within forty-eight business hours.
The answers on this page reflect workshop practice at the time of publication. NOM standards are updated periodically by SE and SSA — the current version must be verified at the time of each quote. Corp-Merch.MX is a Mexican workshop for corporate merch production; we operate independently and the regulatory information here does not constitute legal advice.
