Custom Branded Tote Bags in Mexico
Heavyweight cotton canvas for the Polanco and Santa Fe corporate welcome kit, jute for the Oaxacan-chocolate gift set, non-woven PP for the Centro Citibanamex congress delegate bag, RPET from the Monterrey recycling stream for the ESG-aligned sustainability campaign. Serigrafía is the workhorse, DTF handles the photorealistic congress artwork, bordado handles the premium leather-feel corporate kit. NOM-050 labelling, LFPCA compliance, CFDI 4.0 in MXN, USMCA for cross-border drops.
The CDMX plastic ban changes the tote math
Mexico City's Reglamento de Protección Ambiental y de la Gestión Integral del Residuos Sólido prohibits single-use plastic bags in commercial establishments, and the 2021 reform tightened the prohibition on giveaway plastic bags at conferences, expos and trade shows. The effect on the trade-show circuit is that every Centro Citibanamex, WTC CDMX and Expo Guadalajara exhibitor now hands out a tote bag — branded, reusable, woven or non-woven — instead of a plastic delegate bag. The shift was a windfall for the local tote-bag manufacturers in Iztapalapa, Gustavo A. Madero and Tlalnepantla and a logistics challenge for the brands: a 1,000-delegate show that previously shipped 1,000 plastic bags now ships 1,000 tote bags, which take 3–5x the cubic space and 5–10x the weight.
The other regulatory layer is NOM-050, which governs the environmental labelling of consumer-facing packaging. A tote bag that carries a "ecológico", "reciclable" or "biodegradable" claim has to be backed by a chain-of-custody document and a third-party verification. We work with the non-woven PP mills in Tlalnepantla, the cotton-canvas mills in Atlacomulco and Tehuacán, and the RPET recycling stream in Monterrey; each material stream has its own NOM-050 compliance documentation.
Materials, weaves and what they cost
Heavyweight cotton canvas
12–16 oz / 400–540 gsm, OEKO-TEX Standard 100. The premium corporate-kit standard. Holds embroidery well, takes screen print, ages beautifully with use. Made in Atlacomulco and Tehuacán; runs of 500+ units, lead time 3–4 weeks.
Jute and burlap
Natural fibre, the Oaxacan-craft and artisanal-coffee gift-set standard. Holds embroidery and screen print; has a hand-woven feel. Sourced through Mexican importers; nominal MOQ 100 units, lead time 2–3 weeks.
Non-woven polypropylene (PP)
The trade-show delegate-bag workhorse. 80–120 gsm, available in a wide colour range, screen-printed or DTF-printed with the congress artwork. Made in Iztapalapa and Tlalnepantla; runs of 1,000+ units, lead time 7–10 days.
RPET (recycled polyester)
The ESG-aligned sustainability campaign standard. Made from recycled PET bottles, mostly from the Monterrey recycling stream. Holds screen print and DTF well. NOM-050-compliant "recycled material" claim. Premium of 15–25% over virgin non-woven PP.
Decoration, sizes and where they are made
Decoration follows the same logic as the rest of the apparel line. Serigrafía (screen print) handles 1–4 spot-colour logos at the volume rollouts. DTF (direct-to-film) handles photorealistic congress artwork at small runs. Bordado (embroidery) handles the premium corporate kit on the heavyweight canvas. Sublimation is available on the RPET and polyester-bodied bags but rarely used in the Mexican corporate market.
Sizes follow the congress-delegate standard: 38 × 42 cm is the most common, 30 × 35 cm is the welcome-kit insert, 45 × 50 cm is the field-engineering utility tote. Handles matter: the 2.5 cm cotton-webbed handle is the standard; the 5 cm reinforced cotton-canvas handle is the premium upgrade; the rope-and-leather handle is the executive-kit upgrade. Each handle construction has a per-unit cost line on the quote.
Cut-and-sew in Iztapalapa, Gustavo A. Madero, Tlalnepantla and Naucalpan for the heavyweight canvas and the non-woven PP. Cut-and-sew in Atlacomulco and Tehuacán for the Mexican-made circular-knit canvas. Cut-and-sew in the Monterrey recycling stream for the RPET. We coordinate with the maquiladora's customs broker for cross-border drops to Laredo and El Paso.

Quotes and invoices in MXN excluding IVA 16%. USD billing is available for US-parent procurement teams operating in MXN-equivalent terms. NOM-050 environmental labelling included for every tote that carries a sustainability claim.
For trade-show organisers operating under the CDMX plastic-ban, we hold blanket POs and release call-offs against them; the congress organising team triggers the call-off 4–6 weeks before the show, the goods ship from the bonded warehouse, and the tote bags are delivered to the venue loading dock on the setup day.
FAQ — tote bags in Mexico
What tote works for a Centro Citibanamex congress with 1,000 delegates?
Non-woven PP, 38 × 42 cm, 80 gsm, two-colour screen print. Run of 1,000 + 5% spares, lead time 7–10 working days. Delivered to the venue loading dock on the setup day with the exhibitor pass handled by our driver.
Do you include the NOM-050 environmental claim documentation?
Yes — every tote that carries a "ecológico", "reciclable" or "biodegradable" claim includes the NOM-050 third-party verification document and the chain-of-custody statement.
Can you ship USMCA-documented tote bags to Laredo?
Yes — we file the USMCA supplier declaration and the preference criterion statement on every cross-border drop. The same tote bags that walk out of a Silao plant for a US dealer event do not require re-invoicing in the US when the preference criterion is met.

How long does production take?
7–10 working days for non-woven PP delegate bags; 2–3 weeks for cotton canvas; 3–4 weeks for Mexican-made canvas. Rush at 5–7 days carries a +35% surcharge.
