Why a Mexican power bank is the most paperwork-heavy gift you can buy
A power bank sold or given away in Mexico is a regulated electrical product with three independent compliance tracks. The electrical-safety track is NOM-024, which establishes the safety requirements for electronic equipment connected to a low-voltage power supply; the manufacturer's Certificate of Conformity under NOM-024 has to travel with the shipment, and the unit itself has to carry the NOM-024 mark on the carton label. The radio-frequency track is the IFT (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones) homologation — any unit with wireless charging, Bluetooth, NFC or any other radio has to carry the IFT homologation logo on the body of the unit and the corresponding certificate number on the carton. The battery-transport track is the IATA dangerous-goods classification — the lithium-polymer cell has to be tested under UN 38.3 and the shipping carton has to carry the UN 38.3 test summary.
The RoHS and REACH SVHC declarations add another layer. RoHS (the EU's Restriction of Hazardous Substances) restricts lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and the brominated flame retardants in the unit's electronics; REACH SVHC requires a declaration on any substance of very high concern in the unit's components above the 0.1% weight threshold. We work with two factories in Shenzhen that pre-test every batch; the conformity document travels with every shipment. For buyers that ship cross-border into the US, the FCC Part 15 declaration and the UL 2056 safety certification on the lithium cell are also available on request.
Capacity, ports and what they cost
5,000 mAh ultra-slim
The trade-show giveaway standard. Card-form or ultra-slim rectangular, 5,000 mAh lithium polymer, single USB-A output at 5V/2A, single micro-USB or USB-C input. UV print or pad print on the plastic or aluminium body. Made in Shenzhen; decoration in Iztapalapa and Tlalnepantla; runs of 500+ units.
10,000 mAh USB-C PD
The engineering-recognition and onboarding-kit standard. 10,000 mAh lithium polymer, USB-C PD 18W input/output, USB-A QC 3.0 output, aluminium body. Laser engraving or UV print on the body. Made in Shenzhen; decoration in León, Tlalnepantla and Guadalajara; runs of 250+ units.
20,000 mAh dual USB-C + wireless
The executive travel kit standard. 20,000 mAh lithium polymer, dual USB-C PD 65W output, single USB-A QC 3.0 output, 15W Qi wireless charging pad, aluminium body with leather-feel wrap. Laser engraving on the body. IFT homologation required for the wireless pad. Made in Shenzhen; decoration in León and Guadalajara; runs of 100+ units.
Solar-charged 10,000 mAh
The outdoor and Tequila-corridor campaign standard. 10,000 mAh lithium polymer, single USB-C PD 18W output, single USB-A QC 3.0 output, integrated 5V/200mA solar panel on the front, IPX4 splash resistance. UV print on the body. Made in Shenzhen; decoration in Iztapalapa; runs of 250+ units.
Decoration, batteries and where they are made
Decoration follows the same logic as the rest of the line, with a caveat: the unit is a sealed electronic product with a plastic or aluminium shell, and the decoration is applied to the shell before the unit is sealed. Laser engraving works on aluminium bodies and reveals the bare metal underneath the anodised layer; the result is a permanent, premium look. UV print works on plastic, aluminium and glass bodies and handles photorealistic designs and full-wrap artwork but is less durable than engraving. Pad print works on virtually any body and handles volume rollouts and 1–4 spot-color logos.
The lithium-polymer cell is the most-negotiated parameter. The cell manufacturer has to be on the buyer's approved-vendor list (typically ATL, Lishen, BYD or EVE Energy). The cell has to be UN 38.3 tested and the test summary has to travel with the shipment. The capacity has to be honest — a "10,000 mAh" power bank with a 6,000 mAh cell is a consumer-protection issue under LFPCA and a brand-protection issue for the buyer. We work with cell vendors who certify every batch with a capacity-test document.
Manufacturing hubs: cell-pack assembly in Shenzhen, decorated in León, Tlalnepantla and Iztapalapa. CFDI 4.0 in MXN, USD via wire for US-parent procurement teams. RFC, Razón Social, Régimen Fiscal and Carta Porte 3.1 (when freight is included) on every receipt. NOM-024 Certificate of Conformity included with every shipment; IFT homologation certificate included for any wireless-charging or radio-equipped unit; UN 38.3 test summary included with every shipment; RoHS and REACH SVHC declarations on file.
MOQ, lead time and invoicing for power banks
MOQ 500 units for 5,000 mAh ultra-slim; 250 units for 10,000 mAh USB-C PD; 100 units for 20,000 mAh dual USB-C + wireless; 250 units for solar-charged. Volume tiers at 1,000 / 2,500 / 5,000 units with discounts up to 30% from 2,500 units. Standard lead time 15–20 working days for decorated imports; 3–4 weeks for units with wireless-charging or radio that require IFT homologation paperwork. Rush at 10–14 days carries a +40% surcharge.
Quotes and invoices in MXN excluding IVA 16%. USD billing is standard for the cross-border and US-parent procurement teams — the electronics supply chain is USD-denominated upstream, so the cross-border USD billing simplifies the buyer's accounting. RFC, Razón Social, Régimen Fiscal and Carta Porte 3.1 (when freight is included) on every CFDI 4.0 receipt.
For trade-show organisers running recurring congresses, we hold blanket POs and release call-offs against them; the congress organising team triggers the call-off 4–6 weeks before the show, the units ship from the bonded warehouse, and the goods are delivered to the venue loading dock on the setup day.
FAQ — power banks in Mexico
Do you include the NOM-024 Certificate of Conformity?
Yes — every shipment includes a NOM-024 Certificate of Conformity on the unit, plus the NOM-024 mark on the carton label.
What about IFT homologation for wireless-charging units?
Any unit with wireless charging, Bluetooth, NFC or any other radio carries the IFT homologation logo on the body of the unit and the corresponding certificate number on the carton. The homologation paperwork travels with the shipment.
Do you have UN 38.3 documentation for the lithium cell?
Yes — every shipment includes the UN 38.3 test summary for the lithium-polymer cell, which is required for air freight under IATA dangerous-goods regulations.
Can you ship USMCA-documented power banks to Laredo?
Yes — we file the USMCA supplier declaration and the preference criterion statement on every cross-border drop. The same power banks that walk out of a Silao plant for a US dealer event do not require re-invoicing in the US when the preference criterion is met.
What's the minimum order?
500 units for 5,000 mAh ultra-slim; 250 units for 10,000 mAh USB-C PD; 100 units for 20,000 mAh dual USB-C + wireless; 250 units for solar-charged. For brand-led campaigns we ship a single decorated sample to your oficina before full production begins.
