Custom Branded Hoodies in Mexico
Heavyweight fleece for the Bajío OEM plants, mid-weight zip-ups for the GDL nearshore software shops, light pull-overs for the trade-show circuit. Bordado for the premium corporate kit, serigrafía for the volume rollouts, DTF for the limited-edition campaign. CFDI 4.0 in MXN or USD; NOM-004 in Spanish; USMCA supplier declarations on every cross-border drop.
Why Mexican hoodies are a different product
A Mexican hoodie is not a fashion item; it is a workplace-issued garment with a half-life of three to five years. The Bajío automotive belt — GM Silao, Toyota Guanajuato, Mazda Salamanca, BMW San Luis Potosí, VW Puebla, Nissan Aguascalientes — uses heavyweight 400–500 g/m² pull-overs as the cold-floor uniform for the maintenance crews and the evening shift. The Guadalajara software corridor — Globant, Wizeline, Softtek, TCS — uses mid-weight 280–360 g/m² zip-ups as the default engineering-team garment, often with a light water-resistant DWR finish because the rainy season from June to September is real. The Monterrey industrial cluster — Kia Pesquería, Stellantis Saltillo, the Ternium and Deacero steel mill campuses — runs heavier hoodies with reinforced elbows for the rolling-mill floor.
Decoration follows the same pattern. Embroidery is the workhorse for the Bajío OEM plants because it survives 50+ industrial washes and looks better with age. Screen print is the workhorse for the trade-show circuit because it is cheaper at the 100–500 unit volume and the design lifespan is short — the hoodie is worn a few times at the show and then lives in a closet. DTF is reserved for the limited-edition campaign hoodie with a photorealistic graphic; the unit cost is higher but the brand impact justifies it.
What shapes a hoodie quote
Fabric weight and fleece type
300 g/m² is the entry line. 360 g/m² is the standard for the engineering-team zip-up. 450–500 g/m² is the OEM plant-floor heavyweight. We work with three fleece constructions: brushed-back fleece (the standard), 3-end fleece (heavier, more durable), and sherpa-lined (the winter-only Baja and Saltillo program).
Cut and closure
Pullover with kangaroo pocket is the workhorse (50%+ of our hoodie volume). Full-zip and quarter-zip add 15–25% to the unit cost and run on a different sizing chart. Hood drawstring, double-needle stitching and reinforced pockets are typical upgrade requests from the OEM floor-uniform buyers.
Decoration
Bordado (embroidery) is the standard for OEM plants and corporate kits — durable, premium, handles curved seams well. Serigrafía is cheaper and faster for high-volume runs and trade-show programs. DTF handles photographic graphics on the limited-edition campaign hoodie. We do not recommend discharge printing on Mexican-made cotton-rich hoodies; the result is inconsistent across batches.
Functional add-ons
Reflective tape on the sleeves for the OEM plant programs. Hidden security pockets inside the kangaroo pouch for the trade-show attendee hoodie. RFID-blocking inner pocket for the B2B finance and legal-sector giveaways. YKK zippers for the premium executive kits. Each add-on has a per-unit cost line on the quote.
MOQ, lead time, factories and invoicing
MOQ 50 units for decorated imports; 100 units for Mexican-made circular-knit fleece (the Atlacomulco and Tehuacán cut-and-sew shops). Volume tiers at 100 / 250 / 500 / 1,000 / 2,500 units with discounts up to 30% from 1,000 units. Standard lead time 7–10 working days for decorated imports; 3–4 weeks for Mexican-made fleece. Rush at 5–7 days carries a +25% surcharge. Cross-border drops to Laredo and El Paso carry USMCA supplier declarations.
Decoration hubs: bordado in León (the country's largest embroidery cluster), Tlalnepantla and Guadalajara; serigrafía and DTF in Iztapalapa, Gustavo A. Madero, Guadalajara and Querétaro. CFDI 4.0 in MXN, USD via wire for the US-parent procurement teams. RFC, Razón Social, Régimen Fiscal and Carta Porte 3.1 (when freight is included) on every receipt. NOM-004 in Spanish with bilingual EN/ES care labels for the cross-border hoodie.
Payment terms: 50/50 standard for new buyers, net-30 from order four, net-60 for OEM procurement teams operating under SAP Ariba supplier-network terms. For IMMEX-program inputs we coordinate temporary import flows through trade agents in Nuevo Laredo for the northern border and through the port of Veracruz for the Bajío.
Why hoodies are not a t-shirt with a hood
A 500 g/m² plant-floor hoodie is built differently from a 280 g/m² fashion pullover, and the supply chain knows it. The heavyweight versions come on thicker fabric rolls, get cut differently to avoid seam slippage, and require a different needle and thread on the embroidery machine. We will not run an OEM plant-floor program on a fashion pullover no matter how good the price looks — the garment will fail at the third industrial wash and the buyer's procurement team will not reorder. Conversely, we will not run a fashion campaign on a heavyweight blank; the result looks bulky in the photo and the brand team will reject it.
The other thing to know is that hoodies fail differently. T-shirts fail at the print — the screen cracks or the ink peels. Hoodies fail at the construction — the seam pulls, the cuff unravels, the kangaroo pocket sags. A 50-wash embroidery on a heavyweight fleece will outlast the garment; the same embroidery on a 280 g/m² fashion pullover will outlast the seam around it. Brand-team buyers who want a "design-led" hoodie for a campaign tend to focus on the print; production-team buyers who want a "uniform-grade" hoodie for a plant tend to focus on the construction. We specify differently depending on which program the garment is part of.
FAQ — hoodies in Mexico
What's the typical fabric weight for an OEM plant-floor hoodie?
400–500 g/m², three-end fleece, double-needle stitching on the seams, reinforced elbows for the rolling-mill floor. NOM-004 care labels in Spanish. Embroidery rather than print because the garment has to survive 50+ industrial washes.
What's the minimum order?
50 units for decorated imports, 100 units for Mexican-made fleece. For brand-led campaigns we ship a single decorated sample to your oficina before full production begins.
Can you ship USMCA-documented hoodies to Laredo?
Yes — we file the USMCA supplier declaration and the preference criterion statement on every cross-border drop. The same hoodies that walk out of a Silao plant for a US dealer event do not require re-invoicing in the US when the preference criterion is met.
Do you do reflective tape and functional add-ons?
Yes — reflective tape on the sleeves for OEM plant programs, RFID-blocking inner pockets for the B2B finance-sector giveaways, YKK zippers for the premium executive kits. Each add-on has a per-unit cost line on the quote.
How long does production take?
7–10 working days for decorated imports; 3–4 weeks for Mexican-made fleece. Rush at 5–7 days carries a +25% surcharge. Cut-and-sew in Atlacomulco and Tehuacán is calendar-bound, not rush-bound.
