Resin doming for premium brand labels that read with depth and gloss
Resin doming — also called domed labels, 3D stickers or epoxy doming — is the technique that turns a printed decal into a small lens. A two-part polyurethane resin is dispensed onto the surface of the printed label in a controlled volume; the resin is self-levelling and cures into a transparent dome with a high-gloss, scratch-resistant finish. The artwork sits under a curved magnifying layer that catches the light and makes the colour pop. That is why domed labels own the premium badge market — automotive dealerships, electronics brands, appliance manufacturers and corporate gifting programmes that want the brand mark to read with depth.
Where resin doming earns its place
Resin doming is the right call when the brand mark needs to read premium on a small surface. A flat sticker fades into the substrate; a domed label catches the light and reads as a deliberate, considered brand asset. The technique is widely used for product badges on automotive interiors (the brand mark on the steering wheel, the model designation on the boot trim), electronics (the logo on a Bluetooth speaker, the certification mark on a power supply), appliances (the brand badge on a refrigerator door) and corporate gifting (the badge on a presentation box).
The technique does not survive industrial dishwasher cycles or harsh chemical exposure. The polyurethane is UV-stable but not solvent-stable — alcohol, acetone and gasoline cloud the dome. The technique is built for indoor and protected-outdoor environments, not for under-hood automotive or marine use. For those environments, metal nameplates or laser-etched plastic are the better call.
Recurring applications across Mexican corporate programmes
Automotive dealership and aftermarket badges
Service-department badges, model-line badges and aftermarket-accessory labels for automotive dealerships in CDMX, Monterrey and Guadalajara. Adhesive-backed, domed, applied to interior trim or accessory packaging.
Electronics and appliance branding
Product badges for Bluetooth speakers, headphones, smart-home devices, kitchen appliances and white goods. The domed label catches the retail-shelf light and reads as a premium brand asset over a flat sticker.
Corporate gifting and presentation boxes
Brand badges on magnetic-closure presentation boxes, leatherette gift boxes and award cases. The dome adds a tactile premium cue that flat printing cannot match; common for luxury spirits, jewellery and watch gifting programmes.
Membership and loyalty badges
Member badges for loyalty programmes, premium credit cards (paired with metal card construction) and association memberships. Self-adhesive backing for application to a membership card, or hole-punched for lanyards and keychains.
The resin doming production flow
The artwork prints on a self-adhesive vinyl or polyester substrate using digital or screen printing — full-colour CMYK or spot Pantone depending on the brand standard. The printed sheet is die-cut to the finished shape of the label, leaving the backing paper intact. The cut pieces are laid out on a jig that holds them level for the resin dispense.
A two-part polyurethane resin is mixed in a calibrated ratio and loaded into a piston dispensing head. The head moves over each label in sequence, depositing a controlled volume of resin — typically 1.5 to 3 mm thick at the centre, tapering to a thin edge as the resin self-levels. The labels cure in a temperature- and humidity-controlled cabinet for 12 to 24 hours. Once cured, the dome is scratch-resistant, UV-stable and optically clear. The labels are inspected, die-cut from the sheet (if not done pre-doming) and packed.
MOQ, pricing and delivery
The cost-effective MOQ starts at 100 domed labels for resin doming — below that the dispense setup time weighs too heavily on the unit price. The unit price drops clearly at 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,500 pieces. We quote per label per size per dome thickness, with the artwork setup amortised over the run. Re-orders from an existing die carry no setup fee.
Lead time is 7 to 10 business days standard, including 24 hours of cure time. Express line 5 to 6 days with a +40% surcharge. Quotes are in MXN ex-IVA, 16% IVA itemised on a CFDI 4.0 stamped by SAT against your RFC. For corporate programmes with annual replenishment we offer a blanket PO and call-off orders at the locked-in price.
FAQ — resin doming in Mexico
What is the maximum label size?
Up to 30 cm × 40 cm in a single pass, suitable for large brand badges or presentation-box plaques. Larger artwork is split into multiple domes and assembled side by side. The common corporate badge size is 3 cm × 3 cm to 8 cm × 5 cm.
Does the dome yellow over time?
Standard polyurethane has a 5-year UV stability rating under indoor conditions. We offer a premium aliphatic resin with a 10-year UV stability rating for outdoor applications; the per-piece cost is roughly 40% higher.
What shapes can the label be?
Any shape that can be die-cut: rectangles, circles, ovals, custom outlines. The dome follows the die-cut shape and tapers to the edge. For complex shapes the die cost is higher and the per-piece price may increase.
What adhesive backing is standard?
3M 9448A transfer adhesive — high-tack permanent for metal, plastic and painted surfaces. For low-surface-energy substrates (polypropylene, polyethylene) we use 3M 9485PC. Removable adhesive is available for temporary applications.
Does the dome survive the dishwasher?
No. The dome clouds under industrial dishwasher detergents and high-temperature cycles. Hand-wash only. For dishwasher-safe badges, ceramic decals or metal nameplates are the better answer.
