Jacquard weaving — labels and patches with photo-grade detail and premium flat surface
Jacquard weaving is the technique that produces labels and patches where the entire surface is woven from polyester yarn on a computer-controlled Jacquard loom. The design is not printed on the substrate — the design is the weave itself. Each pixel of the artwork corresponds to a weft insertion of dyed yarn, which is why the technique reproduces fine type below 4 mm, hairlines below 1 mm, intricate monograms and even photographic detail without the texture or thread pile of embroidery. The flat surface photographs cleanly under retail and e-commerce lights, the laser-cut edge seals the perimeter without fraying, and the polyester yarn is colourfast across industrial laundry cycles at 70 °C. Used for premium apparel neck labels in CDMX fashion houses, hospitality towel and robe labels across Mexican resort corridors, corporate blazer badges and briefcase interior labels, sports-event collectible patches, and the woven identity labels that anchor a premium brand at every touch point.
Where Jacquard weaving earns its place
Jacquard weaving is the right call when the artwork is too fine for embroidery. Type below 4 mm, hairlines below 1 mm, intricate monograms, photographic detail — these all collapse into a textured mess under embroidery thread but reproduce cleanly when woven. The technique is also the right call when the patch must sit flat against the garment. A Jacquard-woven patch has no raised thread pile, no merrowed border required, and the laser-cut edge seals the perimeter without adding bulk.
The technique is widely used as the main brand label sewn into the neck of a premium polo, the inside placket of an oxford shirt or the interior pocket of a leather bag. It is also used as an external label on hospitality textiles (spa robes, premium towels, bedding), corporate blazers and the outside of premium backpacks. The technique does not replace embroidered patches for the raised-texture look that tactical apparel wants — that is a different aesthetic — but it replaces direct embroidery on the garment when the customer wants a removable, transferable brand asset.
The technique is not the right call for full-photographic reproduction across large areas — that is dye-sublimation. Jacquard weaving produces the woven label or patch; sublimation produces the photo-printed fabric panel. Each technique has its place. Woven labels carry the brand identity at small scale; sublimated panels carry the brand image at large scale.
Recurring applications across Mexican corporate programmes
Premium apparel neck labels
Inside-neck labels for premium polos, dress shirts and knitwear. Woven with the brand mark, care instructions and country of origin in three languages. Folded and tack-sewn, sewn flat or heat-sealed depending on the garment construction. Compatible with piqué, jersey, oxford and twill substrates. From 200 pieces, 14 to 21 business days, from MXN 4.50 per piece before IVA at 1,000 units.
Hospitality and spa textile labels
Corner labels for hotel robes, spa towels, premium bedding and pool towels across Mexican resort corridors in Cancún, Riviera Maya, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta. The label carries the brand identity in two or three languages and survives the industrial laundry cycle that hospitality uses. Polyester yarn is colourfast at 70 °C with optical brighteners. From 500 pieces, 14 to 21 business days, from MXN 3.80 per piece before IVA at 5,000 units.
Corporate blazer badges and briefcase labels
External woven labels for corporate blazers, suit carriers, leather briefcases and premium backpacks. Often paired with a leather patch, embossed plate or engraved metal plate as a layered brand identity. The woven label carries the corporate logo in photographic detail; the leather patch carries the corporate mark in blind embossing. From 200 pieces, 14 to 21 business days, from MXN 6.50 per piece before IVA at 1,000 units.
Limited-edition and event collectibles
Woven patches as collectibles for music festivals, sports events and brand anniversaries. Sold at retail or included in VIP kits. The flat photographic surface photographs well for social media and is easier to pack than an embroidered patch. Iron-on or sew-on backing depending on the recipient garment. From 200 pieces, 14 to 21 business days, from MXN 12 per piece before IVA at 1,000 units.
The Jacquard weaving production flow
The artwork is converted to a pixel map that drives the Jacquard loom — each pixel of the artwork corresponds to one weft insertion of yarn. The loom weaves the design into a continuous tape of polyester yarn; multiple labels are laid out on the same tape with weave marks indicating the cut lines. Weave density is set per artwork: 100 threads per centimetre for fine photographic reproduction, 60 threads per centimetre for bold graphic logos, 80 threads per centimetre as the standard middle ground.
After weaving, the tape is hot-cut or laser-cut into individual labels. Laser cutting seals the edge and produces clean curves without fraying; hot cutting is faster and adequate for rectangular labels. The backing is applied last: sew-on (no backing, the label is sewn into the garment seam), iron-on (heat-seal adhesive, applied with a domestic iron or heat press), or self-adhesive (pressure-sensitive adhesive for one-off application on flat surfaces).
For apparel labels the patch is folded and tack-sewn so it can be inserted into a garment seam. The fold pattern (centre fold, end fold, Manhattan fold, mitre fold) is chosen at the brief stage based on the garment construction and the placement of the label inside the neck or the side seam.
MOQ, pricing and delivery
The cost-effective MOQ starts at 200 pieces for woven labels and patches — the loom setup is the same regardless of run length, but below 200 the per-piece share of the setup is too high. The unit price drops clearly at 500, 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000 pieces. We quote per label per size per weave density, with the artwork setup amortised over the run.
Lead time is 14 to 21 business days standard for a new artwork, including the woven sample for sign-off. Re-runs of an existing file are 10 to 14 business days. Quotes are in MXN ex-IVA, 16% IVA itemised on a CFDI 4.0 stamped by SAT against your RFC. For hospitality chains and apparel brands with annual replenishment we offer a blanket PO and call-off orders at the locked-in price. If the shipment crosses the border under an IMMEX operation we issue the invoice with the comercio exterior complemento and attach a copy of the pedimento.
FAQ — Jacquard woven labels and patches in Mexico
How thin can the type be?
Down to 4 pt for sans-serif fonts and 5 pt for serif fonts with thin strokes. Below that the yarn cannot carry the shape and the type starts to fill in. For type below 4 pt, dye-sublimated labels are the better answer.
How many colours can the label carry?
Up to 8 colours in the design. The yarn is dyed before weaving, so each colour is a separate yarn loaded into the loom. More colours add loom setup time and slow the weave.
Does the woven label survive industrial washing?
Yes. Polyester yarn is colourfast and the laser-cut edge does not fray. Woven labels survive 100+ industrial laundry cycles at 70 °C without fading or edge deterioration.
What is the difference between woven and embroidered patches?
Embroidered patches have a raised thread texture — the design is stitched on top of a twill substrate. Jacquard-woven patches have a flat surface — the design is the weave itself. Embroidered patches read as bold and tactical; woven patches read as flat and premium.
Can you match a specific Pantone?
Yes. Polyester yarn is dyed to Pantone-coated references. Custom colour matching has a one-time dye-lot fee per colour and adds 2 to 3 weeks to the lead time on the first run.
