Back-to-school Q3 2026 in Mexico: backpacks, uniforms and school supplies for SMEs

The third quarter is the high season of the Mexican school calendar. The SMEs that produce or distribute backpacks, uniforms, school supplies, textbooks, calculators, lunch boxes and didactic material run their highest revenue between July and September, with peaks the last week of July (when private schools and universities return) and the second half of August (when public schools return after the summer break). SEP, the state education secretariats and parent associations coordinate each school cycle's calendar, with the return to classes generally scheduled for the last week of August. At Corp-Merch.MX we produce the merch and POP material that SMEs use to compete in this season: logo backpacks, thermal lunch boxes, school kits, seasonal catalogues, point-of-sale POP. CFDI 4.0 invoicing with 16% VAT, deductible as Marketing or Advertising.

Q3 back-to-school operational calendar

The Mexican Q3 concentrates three windows for the school season: the first half of July (when publishers finish the reprinting of textbooks and backpack and lunch-box manufacturers close inventory for August), the second half of August (when Mexican families buy supplies, uniforms and backpacks in the week before the return to classes), and the first half of September (when schools that return late finish their purchasing cycle). The production window closes between 15 April and 31 May for pieces delivered in July–August, and between 15 May and 30 June for pieces delivered in September. For SMEs with short planning windows we run an express run of 14–21 business days at an 18%–25% surcharge.

At Corp-Merch.MX we coordinate the school merch production with timelines that consider the back-to-school date per SEP calendar, the unit count per sales channel, the cities where the SME distributes, early delivery to the distribution centre or point of sale, and coordination with the SME Operations team. We operate in Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Querétaro, Mérida, Puebla, León, Tijuana, Cancún, Veracruz and Bajío destinations, with delivery to the SME distribution centre or point of sale. For SMEs with a US base under USMCA we handle international shipping through the client's customs broker, particularly relevant for SMEs with operations in Texas and California supplying the Mexican market. Invoicing is issued with CFDI 4.0 and 16% VAT, deductible as Marketing, Advertising or Commercial Relations depending on the destination.

Curation by channel and school level

Curation depends on the sales channel and the school level targeted. For SMEs supplying mass-market and department-store chains (Walmart, Soriana, Chedraui, Costco, Liverpool, El Palacio de Hierro) we deliver high-MOQ lines (1,000 to 50,000 units), aggressive pricing and shrink-wrap packaging or individual box depending on the retailer guideline. For SMEs supplying private schools and parent associations we deliver medium-MOQ lines (100 to 1,000 units), premium quality and embroidered institution crest. For SMEs selling through catalogue and ecommerce (Amazon, Mercado Libre, Shopify,VTEX) we deliver low-MOQ lines (50 to 500 units), shipping-resistant individual packaging and photo-friendly design. Final decision closes between 15 April and 15 June depending on the SME sales calendar.

The process kicks off with a working session with the SME Marketing, Trade Marketing, Operations and Procurement team, where we define the sales channel, the target school level, the unit count per line, the cities, the per-unit budget and the production timeline. Final curation closes between 30 April and 31 May for pieces delivered in July–August, and between 31 May and 30 June for pieces delivered in September. For SMEs with limited budget we run pre-designed packages with accessible MOQ and pre-payment discount. Invoicing is issued with CFDI 4.0 and 16% VAT, deductible as Marketing or Advertising depending on the destination and the sales channel.
