Avocado-export merch in Mexico — 2026 version

The revised version of the merch program for the Mexican avocado-export chain 2026 incorporates three dimensions the base document did not exhaust: (a) the packer front with USDA APHIS (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service) certification and compliance with the Operational Work Protocol (PTO) signed between USDA-APHIS and SENASICA; (b) the Super Bowl season front (January-February) that concentrates the avocado-demand peak in the US and defines the exporter's operating calendar; and (c) the final-consumer dimension with the Mexican avocado brand (Hass Avocado from Mexico, Marca País) and the presentation merch to the international buyer. It covers the producer, packer, and exporter ecosystem of Michoacán (the state producing more than 75% of Mexican avocado), Jalisco, Estado de Mexico, and Nayarit, and the associations (APEAM — Asociación de Productores y Empacadores Exportadores de Aguacate de Mexico) and US importers.

USDA APHIS, SENASICA, and the phytosanitary dimension of avocado

The Mexican 2026 avocado-export chain operates at five levels that almost never share catalogue. The farm: the Hass-avocado producer in Michoacán (Tancítaro, Uruapan, Ario de Rosales, Salvador Escalante, Tacámbaro), Jalisco (Zapotlán el Grande, Gómez Farías, Sayula), Estado de Mexico (Coatepec Harinas, Donato Guerra), and Nayarit (Xalisco, San Pedro Lagunillas). The producer harvests between June and February with three flowerings; the main flowering defines the high season. Farm merch is picker uniform (hat, UV-protection t-shirt, work trousers, canvas bag, picker badge with cargo weight). The packer: the packer selects, washes, calibrates, labels, and packs the avocado in 11.34 kg (25-pound) boxes or 4 kg for retail. The packer operates under USDA APHIS certification with in-line phytosanitary inspection. Packer merch is operator uniform (smock, cap, overshoe, gloves), quality-supervisor smock, USDA APHIS inspector kit when visiting the plant, avocado cupper kit. The refrigerated transport: the avocado travels in refrigerated truck at 5–7°C from Michoacán to the Nuevo Laredo border, and from there to the US importer's distribution centre. Cold-chain operator merch is driver uniform (thermal jacket with lining, NOM-039-STPS-1998 reflective vest, thermal gloves, cold-chain operator kit (thermos for temperature monitoring, shipment logbook with temperature log), visible plate. The export: the Mexican exporter bills the US importer in USD and ships through the Mexican customs broker. Exporter merch is office uniform, international-buyer presentation kit, US-importer executive gift. The retail: the avocado reaches the US supermarket (Costco, Walmart, Kroger, H-E-B, Whole Foods) under the importer's private brand. Retail merch is Hass Avocado from Mexico POP material and Super Bowl season merch.

The 2026 Mexican avocado regulatory dimension is the densest among agro-exports. SADER (Secretaría de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural) and SENASICA operate the phytosanitary compliance of avocado leaving Mexico. USDA APHIS operates the compliance of avocado entering the US, with border inspection and the irradiation protocol when the shipment comes from a state with risk. The Operational Work Protocol (PTO) signed between USDA-APHIS and SENASICA sets the operational procedure of farm and packer inspection. The Marca País mark (Hass Avocado from Mexico, Marca País) operates the positioning of the category in the international market. The cross-border dimension operates under USMCA with tariff preference; under T-MEC with the rule-of-origin; and under the Bilateral Cooperation Agreements for phytosanitary inspection. CFDI 4.0 issued under USO CFDI G03 (general expenses) for kits distributed to farm, packer, and office staff; I04 (equivalent inventory) for merch inventory at packer and office; I08 (professional services) when the kit forms part of the cupping or quality-consulting programme.
