Distillery orders — tequila, mezcal, raicilla, and agave

How we run orders for spirits houses at Corp-Merch Mexico: CRT and NOM-006-SCFI-2005 compliance, tax stamps, bottle-safe packaging, DOTP traceability, and regulated labeling.

Distillery merch is not generic merch

Distilleries in Mexico — tequila in Jalisco, mezcal in Oaxaca, raicilla in Jalisco and Nayarit, agave spirits in Yucatan and Guanajuato — operate under a regulatory regime that few merch providers know well. Corp-Merch Mexico has built a dedicated practice for this industry: we know NOM-006-SCFI-2005 (alcoholic beverages — tequila), the role of the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), the tax stamp and hologram requirements, the DOTP (Distillery-Origin-Traceability-Product) rules, and the bottle-safe packaging demands that apply to premium cocktail and export programs.

The first compliance front is the tax stamp and hologram. Every tequila bottle must leave the plant with a CRT tax stamp adhered to the neck or capsule, plus an authenticity hologram in some categories (especially 100% agave tequila). When your brand commissions promotional pieces delivered at events or at point of sale alongside the bottle — a cocktail kit, an engraved glass, a gift box — we confirm with your regulatory area that the tax stamp is not covered, removed, or altered by the attached material. This discipline prevents an active promotion from triggering a CRT callout.

The second front is bottle-safe packaging. Not every substrate is compatible with a 750 ml bottle carrying a tax stamp. At Corp-Merch Mexico we systematically test double-walled corrugated cardboard, compact cardboard with aqueous coating, oak or pine wood with moisture treatment, vegetable-tanned leather, and, for premium pieces, MDF with walnut veneer. Each piece undergoes vibration testing simulating overland transport (we replicate the Mexico City–Guadalajara highway profile and the Oaxaca–Puerto Escondido road profile) and temperature testing between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius.

The third front is DOTP traceability, which many agave brands have adopted as a voluntary standard. Each box carries a unique QR linking to the batch digital file: production date at the plant, agave lot used, assigned tax stamp numbers, organic or fair-trade certifications when applicable, and data of the maestro mezcalero or master distiller in charge. This is especially relevant for distilleries exporting to the United States, Europe, or Asia, where regulators and ESG programs require field-to-bottle traceability.

The fourth front is regulated labeling. A tequila label cannot say “reserva” without the product aging at least one year in oak or encino barrels; cannot say “extra añejo” without a minimum three-year aging; cannot use blue agave imagery on bottles not certified as 100% blue agave. When your brand commissions labels for bottle, gift boxes, or POP material at point of sale, we cross-check every legend against NOM-006-SCFI-2005 and against the current CRT guides before sending to print. It is a service few print shops in Mexico offer.

The fifth front, and the most operational, is volume and cadence. A mid-sized distillery in Jalisco or Guanajuato may need between 5,000 and 50,000 promotional pieces per year, distributed across Day of the Dead, Buen Fin, hot season, export, and festival activations. We operate with annual programming that reserves production capacity at our suppliers of cardboard, wood, and textile, with frozen prices by category and flexibility to adjust ± 20 percent between campaigns. This lets your brand avoid spot pricing when agave is scarce or when global demand pressures costs.

Frequently asked questions about distillery orders

What tequila, mezcal, raicilla, and agave spirits houses most often ask before closing an annual merch program.

Do you know NOM-006-SCFI-2005 and CRT rules?

Yes. We work with tequila, mezcal, and raicilla brands under NOM-006-SCFI-2005, the current CRT guides for tequila, and the Mezcal Regulatory Council rules for agave spirits.

How do you handle tax stamps and holograms?

We confirm with your regulatory area that no promotional piece covers, removes, or alters the tax stamp or the CRT hologram. This discipline prevents regulatory callouts while the promotion is active at point of sale.

Do you test packaging before production?

Yes. Each substrate undergoes vibration simulating overland transport, a 5 to 35 °C thermal range, and compression stacking. We only approve substrates that pass all three tests.

Can you include DOTP traceability via QR?

Yes. Each box carries a unique QR linking to the batch digital file: production date, agave lot, tax stamps, organic certifications, and master distiller data. Increasingly required for export markets.

Do you review labeling against regulation?

Yes. We cross-check every legend against NOM-006-SCFI-2005 and the current CRT guides before printing. A service few print shops in Mexico offer, and it prevents later sanctions.

Do you work with annual piece programming?

Yes. We run annual programs for mid and large distilleries: reserved capacity, frozen prices by category, and ± 20 percent flexibility between seasonal campaigns (Day of the Dead, Buen Fin, hot season, export).

Can you produce pieces for export?

Yes. We comply with FDA requirements for the US, CE for Europe, and labeling rules for Asia. We coordinate with your customs broker for temporary or definitive export pedimentos depending on the market.
