IMMEX immersion course for merch operations
This intensive course covers the IMMEX program as it applies to corporate merch: how to operate under temporary import, return and definitive export, how to file pedimentos, how to issue the foreign trade complement on the CFDI, and how to keep the IMMEX control kardex consistent with customs records. Across six modules and twenty hours of asynchronous content plus four live sessions, participants build a working knowledge of the regulatory framework and learn to apply it to real scenarios from the merch sector. The course is targeted at logistics coordinators, customs brokers, foreign trade analysts and operations managers who handle merch movement between Mexico and the rest of the world.
Why an IMMEX course specialized for merch
The general IMMEX courses on the market focus on electronics, automotive or medical devices. Merch has its own patterns: high mix of SKUs, low individual value per piece, fast turnaround, and frequent movement of samples and small batches that do not justify a full pedimento. The result is that participants finish a general IMMEX course with theoretical knowledge but without the operational patterns they need to handle a t-shirt going to a Texas trade show or a kit going to a German distributor.
The course fills that gap with case studies from the merch sector. We walk through the documentation for a booth at a Las Vegas convention, the export of 5,000 kits to a Brazilian client, the return of samples from a Mexico City trade show, and the temporary import of fabric that will become export-bound apparel. Each case includes the pedimento, the CFDI with foreign trade complement, the Carta Porte when relevant, and the kardex entries.
Curriculum by module
Module 1 — IMMEX fundamentals
The Decree, the General Rules of Foreign Trade, the SAT catalogs, the SE registry. Who can apply, how to enroll, what is required at the moment of the operation. Three hours of asynchronous content plus one live session.
Module 2 — Regimes that apply to merch
Temporary import, return in the same state, definitive export, indirect export via a shelter. Pedimento keys, applicable annexes, transfer deadlines and what happens when a deadline is missed. Four hours.
Module 3 — CFDI foreign trade complement
How to issue the CFDI 4.0 with the foreign trade complement for export sales and for temporary movements. Required fields, error patterns, validation with the SAT validator. Three hours.
Module 4 — Kardex control and audit
How to keep the IMMEX control kardex consistent with customs records. Reconciliation, monthly reports, transfer of balances, response to SAT audits. Four hours plus live session.
Module 5 — Cases from the merch sector
Five real cases: booth at international convention, export of finished merch, temporary import of fabric, return of samples, transfer between plants. Participants build the documentation for each case.
Module 6 — Operational implementation
How to operationalize IMMEX in a corporate merch program: supplier agreements, role of the customs broker, internal controls, training for finance and operations. Three hours.
How the course runs
The course runs asynchronously over six weeks, with new modules released every Tuesday. Each module includes two hours of recorded video, a reading list with the relevant regulatory excerpts, and a workbook with exercises. Live sessions take place on Thursday at 18:00 Mexico City time and run ninety minutes; they are recorded for those who cannot attend live. Between modules, participants have access to a private channel where the instructor and teaching assistants answer questions within one business day. Final evaluation consists of a case study that the participant builds step by step and submits for review.
Participants who complete the course receive a certificate of completion with the program content, the instructor signature and the verification QR for employers. The certificate does not replace the customs broker license; it documents the operational knowledge for the merch sector specifically. Companies that register three or more participants receive an in-company version with adapted case studies.
Who should take this course
The course is for professionals who already handle or are about to handle the foreign trade side of a merch operation. Typical participants are logistics coordinators in companies with IMMEX, customs brokers who want to specialize in the merch sector, foreign trade analysts in maquiladoras that produce merch for their collaborators, finance managers who need to understand the fiscal impact of the regime, and operations managers at workshops that serve IMMEX clients. The course is not for beginners in foreign trade — at least one year of operational experience is recommended.
Companies that send merch to other countries benefit most when at least two people from the same organization take it together — typically the operations manager and the customs broker or the foreign trade analyst. The shared vocabulary built during the live sessions translates directly into faster decision-making on the operational floor.
Register for the next cohort
The next cohort starts on the first Tuesday of the month and runs for six weeks. Send us the name and email of each participant, the company and the city. We will reply within one business day with the registration form, the syllabus in PDF and the payment options. Group rates are available for three or more participants from the same organization.
The regulatory framework described in this course reflects Mexican foreign trade rules in force at the time of publication. The Decree IMMEX, the RGCE, the SAT catalogs and the foreign trade complement schema are updated periodically; we recommend validating the current version before applying any procedure described in the modules. The certificate of completion documents participation in the course; it does not substitute the customs broker license or any other professional credential required by Mexican law.
