The alumni programme of the Mexican university

Mexican private universities are the fastest-growing educational institutions in Latin America. Tec de Monterrey is the largest private university in Mexico with 95,000 active students and 280,000 alumni. It is followed by Universidad Anahuac with 65,000 alumni, Universidad Iberoamericana with 80,000 alumni, ITAM with 35,000 alumni, Universidad La Salle with 90,000 alumni, and UP (Universidad Panamericana) with 45,000 alumni. In total, Mexican private universities have more than 1.5 million active alumni.

The alumni programme of the Mexican university operates with four main objectives. The first is to maintain the graduate's bond with the university. The second is to facilitate the network of contacts between alumni for job, business and academic-collaboration opportunities. The third is to promote philanthropic donation by successful alumni to the university. The fourth is to position the university in global rankings through the professional success of its alumni.

The graduate's participation rate in the alumni programme typically runs between 30% and 50% for the first 5 years after graduation and drops to 15-25% after 15 years. The university corporate that invests in tangible kits (welcome kit, anniversary gift, reunion kit) raises the participation rate by 8 to 15 percentage points and philanthropic donation by 20 to 40% according to CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) studies.

The corp 118 final bundle equips the university's alumni programme with tangible kits for every moment of the graduate's lifecycle. The welcome kit is delivered at the graduation ceremony. The anniversary gift is delivered at years 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25. The reunion kit is delivered at the annual alumni reunion. The university corporate invoice deducts all expenses under Article 27 LISR as educational expense.

How the university alumni kit is invoiced

The corp 118 final bundle is invoiced under CFDI use key G03 (general expenses) with line-by-line breakdown. The deductibility runs under Article 27 LISR as an expense strictly indispensable in educational operations and alumni engagement. For universities under the authorised-donee regime, the deduction additionally runs under Article 31 LISR as donation received and the university issues a deductible receipt for the donor.

The welcome kit and anniversary gift are invoiced with key E48 (work equipment) or H89 (goods not covered) depending on the piece. The plaque and personalised book are invoiced under key E46 (product not classified). The commemorative piece is invoiced under key E46. The reunion kit is invoiced under key E46. The event attendance certificate is attached to the graduate's file.

For universities with interstate operations, delivery of the kit runs with Carta Porte 3.0 when it crosses state borders. For international deliveries (the case of universities with alumni abroad), the foreign-trade complement is attached with definitive export pedimento. The invoice runs with the foreign-trade key and 0% IVA when the graduate resides abroad.

The university with a consolidated alumni programme issues one consolidated monthly invoice for all kits of the month. The invoice breaks down by event (graduation, anniversary, reunion, donation), date, number of graduates and individual amount. The deductibility runs under the same Article 27 LISR regardless of frequency. The supporting documentation includes the alumni-programme-director-signed graduate list, the annual alumni report, and the annual donation report before the SAT.

The alumni programme and global engagement trends

Mexican private universities compete in global rankings (QS, THE, ARWU) on the quality of their alumni and alumni engagement. Alumni engagement is measured by participation rate, philanthropic contribution, board presence and participation in professional networks. The university corporate that invests in tangible kits raises its position in global rankings and attracts more high-performing students.

The CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) model sets global best practices for alumni programmes. CASE operates with a network of more than 3,700 educational institutions in 80 countries and publishes annually the Voluntary Support of Education study measuring philanthropic donation to education. In Mexico, CASE operates through AMEF (Asociacion Mexicana de Egresados de Filantropia) and ANUIES (Asociacion Nacional de Universidades e Instituciones de Educacion Superior).

The Mexican university corporate competes with the American university for the graduate's engagement. The Tec de Monterrey graduate working in the United States receives engagement proposals from Stanford, MIT and Wharton (alumni networks from American universities) and from Tec de Monterrey. The university corporate that offers a differentiating tangible kit retains the graduate in its network and raises the philanthropic donation rate.

The digital alumni programme runs on a CRM platform to manage engagement. Salesforce Education Cloud, Ellucian Banner and Slate are the platforms most used by Mexican private universities. The corp 118 final bundle integrates with these platforms via QR code on the graduate's ID, which links to their profile on the alumni platform. The integration facilitates graduate follow-up and participation-rate measurement.
