Salon G-7: the room where the UNAM doctoral candidate defends the thesis and the merch is screen-printed by the Fine Arts Faculty workshop down the street

Salon G-7 sits on the ground floor of a 1920s eclectic building on Avenida Centenario, 400 metres from the Coyoacan market and seven blocks from the Zocalo. It is a 250-square-metre room with the original polished-cement floor, white walls with exposed steel beams, two central islands with cork boards for poster sessions, an adjoining room with 60 seated diners for the closing dinner, a freight store with flexible hours for the Fine Arts Faculty workshops, and access to the interior garden with the medicinal-plant plot. Inside these walls the UNAM and Colegio de Mexico postgraduate colloquia have run, the annual congresses of the academic associations gathering CONACYT-system researchers have convened, the university books distributed by Direccion General de Publicaciones through the UNAM bookstore network have launched, the doctoral thesis defences broadcast to the postgraduate system have taken place, and the science-outreach workshops the Marcos Moshinsky Foundation sponsors for the Coyoacan public have rolled out. What separates Salon G-7 from a comparable hall is that the Fine Arts Faculty screen-printing workshop is three blocks away and the students usually run their school practicum curating the merch piece.

Salon G-7 logistics, access and chain of custody

Salon G-7 loads through the side door of the building: the freight store accepts a 1.5-ton box truck by appointment and the hours are coordinated case by case with the condo management (Coyoacan neighbours are sensitive to noise and heavy traffic, especially during the market weekends). Delicate freight (university-book boxes, signed editions, ceramic paperweights) moves in a transport cart with uniformed staff and sits in the hall store until formal hand-over. Salon G-7's back-of-house has two separate zones: the production workshop (where the merch is staged on work tables) and the hall store (where the remaining material sits in sealed boxes bearing the colloquium's seal).

For colloquia with international academic presence (typically from the US, Spain, France, Germany and Argentina), we handle invoicing in USD or EUR at the Banco de Mexico FIX rate from the day before the colloquium, with USMCA compliance and deduction support as Cultural Outreach, Public Relations or Corporate Communications expense in the calling institution's fiscal close. For colloquia with CONACYT-system researcher presence, we handle SAT invoicing compliance when the institution bills as a decentralised public body and we require their fiscal status certificate. The merch chain of custody is documented with signature, time stamp and photo at every checkpoint: store entry, hall inspection, production-workshop transfer, researcher signature at the close of the colloquium, post-event pickup.

Salon G-7 confidentiality, compliance and restrictions

Salon G-7 runs under condo, colloquium and UNAM rules: no professional cameras without prior organising committee accreditation, no merch carrying noise or distraction elements during the talks (the hall silence is part of the colloquium), no POP material with competitor logos of the calling institution (when the colloquium is exclusive), no outside food or beverages beyond the Salon G-7 cafeteria service, no phones in the hall during thesis defences. For sessions that call for limited-edition merchandising (thesis author's signed first edition, numbered artist book, bookmark with the inaugural speaker's quotation), we coordinate with the condo management and the UNAM Direccion General de Publicaciones to ensure the piece clears the colloquium protocol, the editorial-heritage protocol and the broadcast protocol when the defence is internal and broadcast to the postgraduate system.

For SAT invoicing we issue CFDI 4.0 with the 16% IVA breakdown and deduction support as Cultural Outreach, Public Relations or Corporate Communications expense depending on how the merch is used. For institutions with IMMEX operations or international exposure, we handle complementary invoicing in USD or EUR with USMCA compliance support when the merch crosses the border as part of the disclosure material for international researchers resident abroad. For colloquia with indexed international journal presence (Scopus, Web of Science, JSTOR), we handle bilingual (es/en) invoicing and USMCA compliance when the researcher's box crosses the border as part of the academic distribution-network disclosure material. Merch ships with carta porte 3.0 when interstate or international transit applies, with the foreign trade complement when applicable, and with the payment complement when the institution pays in instalments.

Salon G-7 MOQ, pricing and reservations

Researcher's box — from USD 51 per piece before VAT at a 100-piece run. Academic committee merch — from USD 83 per person at a 20-piece run. Guest speaker hospitality — from USD 116 per piece at a 30-piece run. Doctoral candidate recognition — from USD 190 per piece at a 4-piece run. Pricing does not include the Salon G-7 rental, which is quoted directly with the colloquium events team depending on the day, the hours, the academic setup and additional services (cafeteria, production workshop, store, broadcast to the postgraduate system).

For colloquia on high-demand dates (UNAM anniversary, doctoral thesis defences, annual academic-association colloquia) we block the calendar 60 days ahead with a firm written commitment. For colloquia on low-demand dates we block 30 days ahead. Express production under 14 days carries a +35% surcharge for the curation, dispatch and coordination with the Fine Arts Faculty screen-printing workshop. The reservation runs on a fourteen-point brief: colloquium date, colloquium type, attendee count, pieces per package, colloquium brand manual, isotype palette, academic protocol, broadcast compliance, freight logistics, SAT invoicing, USMCA compliance when the merch crosses the border, post-event donation to the colloquium library.
