Salon G-4: the colonial courtyard where the bicentennial book is launched and nobody advertises the merch because the building's stone speaks louder

Salon G-4 occupies the ground floor of an 18th-century viceregal palace on Calle Madero, 90 metres from the Metropolitan Cathedral. It is a 240-square-metre interior courtyard with a stone fountain, stone arcades, two 80-square-metre adjoining rooms, a floor-to-ceiling red cedar bookcase in the main room, a service freight lift on the side alley with restricted hours, and a security gate with vehicle screening. Inside these walls Fondo de Cultura Economica has presented its civic-calendar anniversary editions, Turner Subastas and Morton Subastas have launched their catalogue raisonne of national painters, the San Rafael and Juarez galleries have premiered their artist books for contemporary Mexican art collectors, El Colegio de Mexico and UNAM have released their academic essays on viceregal heritage, and the cultural-tourism specialist publishers have rolled out their field guides. What separates Salon G-4 from a comparable heritage venue is the unwritten rule that the merch enters in silence so it never competes with the stone.

Salon G-4 logistics, access and chain of custody

Salon G-4 loads through the side alley of the viceregal palace: the service freight lift runs on restricted hours (typically 07:00 to 11:00 for morning presentations and 14:00 to 18:00 for evening presentations) and requires prior identification of the uniformed staff. Delicate freight (book boxes, signed editions, cartoneria pieces) moves in a closed cart with palace-protocol escort and sits in the courtyard security vault until formal hand-over. The Salon G-4 protocol team walks each guest from the main entrance to their table in the courtyard, handling editorial etiquette protocol by outlet and rank.

For presentations with international academic presence (typically from the US, Spain, France and Germany), we handle invoicing in USD or EUR at the Banco de Mexico FIX rate from the day before the presentation, with USMCA compliance and deduction support as Public Relations, Cultural Outreach or Corporate Communications expense in the publisher's fiscal close. For presentations with INAH or Ministry of Culture official presence, we handle compliance with the heritage protocol when the book covers viceregal monuments. The merch chain of custody is documented with signature, time stamp and photo at every checkpoint: freight lift entry, protocol inspection, courtyard transfer, formal hand-over to guest, post-presentation pickup.

Salon G-4 confidentiality, compliance and restrictions

Salon G-4 runs under strict rules from INAH, the publisher and the viceregal palace: no professional cameras without prior editorial corps accreditation, no merch with noise or distraction elements (the courtyard silence is part of the presentation), no POP material carrying third-party logos (when the presentation is a publisher exclusive), no outside food or beverages beyond the Salon G-4 tasting service, no phones in the courtyard during the inaugural paragraph reading. For sessions that call for limited-edition merchandising (author-signed first edition, numbered artist book, bookmark with the author's quotation), we coordinate with the editorial corps to ensure the piece clears the heritage protocol, the press protocol and the broadcast protocol when the presentation is closed and not transmitted externally.

For SAT invoicing we issue CFDI 4.0 with the 16% IVA breakdown and deduction support as Cultural Outreach, Public Relations or Corporate Communications expense depending on how the merch is used. For publishers with IMMEX operations or export activity, we handle complementary invoicing in USD or EUR with USMCA compliance support when the book crosses the border as part of the international reader distribution. For imprints with international fair presence (Frankfurt, Guadalajara, Buenos Aires), we handle bilingual (es/en) invoicing and USMCA compliance when the reader's box crosses the border as part of the international distribution-network promotional material. Merch ships with carta porte 3.0 when interstate or international transit applies, with the foreign trade complement when applicable, and with the payment complement when the publisher pays in instalments.

Salon G-4 MOQ, pricing and reservations

Reader's box — from USD 98 per piece before VAT at a 60-piece run. Editorial corps merch — from USD 143 per person at a 16-piece run. Critic hospitality — from USD 175 per piece at a 24-piece run. Guest author recognition — from USD 286 per piece at a 4-piece run. Pricing does not include the Salon G-4 rental, which is quoted directly with the palace protocol team depending on the day, the hours, the editorial setup and additional services (tasting, freight lift, palace-protocol escort, broadcast, venue catalogue raisonne).

For presentations on high-demand dates (Guadalajara International Book Fair, civic calendar anniversary, catalogue raisonne launch for a deceased artist) we block the calendar 90 days ahead with a firm written commitment. For presentations on low-demand dates we block 45 days ahead. Express production under 21 days carries a +45% surcharge for the curation and dispatch. The reservation runs on a fifteen-point brief: presentation date, book type, attendee count, pieces per package, publisher brand manual, collection palette, INAH heritage protocol, broadcast compliance, freight logistics, escort, SAT invoicing and USMCA compliance when the book crosses the border.
