Mexican automotive merch runs against the IMMEX clock

The Mexican automotive-supplier industry runs against a calendar the European and Asian suppliers do not share. The IMMEX (Industria Manufacturera, Maquiladora y de Servicios de Exportación) program requires monthly inventory reports, quarterly BOM reconciliation, and the IMMEX operator's permanent-warehouse accounting against the imported inputs. The merchandise program has to clear the IMMEX audit trail — the imported garments are tracked separately from the locally-sourced apparel, the personalisation is done against an MX-domestic inventory pool, and the export kits clear Mexican customs through the IMMEX-dedicated lanes at the Nuevo Laredo or Colombia bridge.

The plant environment has its own constraints. Plant-floor apparel has to clear the OEM-customer's safety specification — General Motors' PPE specification, Stellantis' protective-apparel requirement, Ford's safety-glasses and steel-toe protocol, Toyota's lean-manufacturing apparel standard, BMW's SLP-3 plant apparel, Audi's Puebla specification. The merch vendor has to know which OEM is the customer of the supplier's plant, which safety tier applies, and whether the program is in scope of the OEM's global apparel contract.

Programs we run for automotive suppliers

Plant-floor apparel and PPE-aligned merch

Plant-floor apparel, line-leader apparel, supervisor apparel, and the safety-glasses, steel-toe and ESD-protective tokens that go with each program. Aligned to the OEM-customer's safety tier — GM's PPE-2, Stellantis' PPE-1, Ford's PPE-3, Toyota's lean-apparel standard. NOM-004 textile labelling, NOM-009-STPS-2011 alignment for the safety footwear, NOM-017-STPS-2008 alignment for the personal-protective equipment.

OEM customer-audit and partner kits

For the OEM-customer audit cycle (GM's Q1 supplier audit, Stellantis' bi-annual supplier review, Ford's Q3 supplier-scorecard review) — branded apparel, presentation kits, and the gift-quality items for the OEM-customer's quality team. Bilingual ES/EN, brand-manual compliant, NOM-004 textile labelling.

Trade-show and industry-event kits

For the supplier's presence at INA PAACE Automechanika Mexico (CDMX), the Automotive Logistics Mexico (Puebla), the SEMA Mexico presence, the FabTech Mexico presence (Monterrey), and the OEM customer events (GM Supplier Day, Stellantis Supplier Award, Ford World Excellence Award). Branded apparel, premium presentation kits, gift-quality items for the OEM-customer table.

IMMEX export kits and cross-border apparel

For the IMMEX program operators shipping across the US border (Nuevo Laredo, Colombia, Matamoros, Ciudad Juárez, Tijuana) — branded apparel with the IMMEX export kit, bilingual ES/EN care labels, US-side FDA textile-labelling compliance for the apparel that re-enters the US through the maquiladora return. Coordinated with the IMMEX operator's logistics lead and customs broker.

Safety and quality compliance is non-negotiable

Plant-floor apparel has to clear four specifications simultaneously — the OEM customer's safety specification, NOM-009-STPS-2011 (the Mexican safety-footwear standard), NOM-017-STPS-2008 (the personal-protective-equipment standard), and the supplier's own internal quality specification. The NOM-009 spec is the binding legal standard in Mexico; the OEM-customer specification is the contractual standard; the two have to clear each other.

For the OEM-customer audit kits, the merchandise has to read as serious, modern and operationally credible. The OEM customer's quality team sits through 20+ supplier audits in a quarter and they know when the merch is genuine versus when it's been ordered from a generic catalogue. The Pantone palette, the embroidery thread colour, the leather quality, the pen weight — every detail has to land.

Pricing, MOQ and lead times — automotive

Pricing in MXN excluding IVA (16%) for the Mexico-side billing, USD billing standard for the US-side OEM customer and the cross-border IMMEX export. CFDI 4.0 with USO CFDI G03 (general expenses) for the Mexico-side expense line, or P01 (definitive import) for the imported apparel and gift-quality items. IMMEX operators receive the dedicated IMMEX-export pricing. MOQ tiers at 100 / 250 / 500 / 1,000 for plant-floor apparel; 50 / 100 for OEM customer-audit kits; 25 / 50 for trade-show presence. Lead time 5–8 working days for orders under 500 units; 4–6 weeks for the plant-uniform rollouts that ship ahead of the new model-year launch. Production hubs in Saltillo (the plant-apparel partner for the Ramos Arizpe cluster), Silao (the Silao-Irapuato apparel partner), and San Luis Potosí (the Bajío-wide apparel partner).

Let's plan your next automotive merch cycle

If you run a Tier-1 or Tier-2 automotive supplier with a Mexican plant footprint under the IMMEX program — let's talk.
