How polo embroidery works

Polo shirt embroidery is the most durable textile-decoration technique on the market. The operation consists of digitizing the client's design (AI vector, PDF, SVG, EPS, or high-resolution image), selecting threads by color chart (Madeira Aerofil, Madeira Polyneon, Coats & Clark Dual Duty, Isacord polyester), loading the program into the computerized embroidery machine (Tajima, Barudan, ZSK, SWF, Brother), placing the polo in the hoop with stabilizer (cut-away, tear-away, or soluble depending on substrate), running the machine with calibrated density and speed, and inspecting piece by piece before packing. Standard density is 4 to 6 stitches per millimeter for large designs and 8 to 12 stitches per millimeter for fine text or small details. Standard speed is 600 to 800 stitches per minute for 40s polyester and 400 to 600 stitches per minute for 40s rayon. Embroidery time per polo depends on stitch count: 4,000 to 6,000 stitches for a standard front logo (3 to 5 minutes), 8,000 to 12,000 stitches for a detailed logo (5 to 8 minutes), 12,000 to 25,000 stitches for full back (8 to 18 minutes).

Corp-Merch.com.mx has been embroidering polos since 2018. We started embroidering 200 polos with the logo of a tax-firm in Polanco; today we run 100 to 8,000 pieces with 1 to 4 embroidery placements (left chest, right sleeve, upper back, full sleeve), 1 to 12 colors per placement, and a thread chart that combines 40s polyester, 40s rayon, and metallic threads in gold and silver. We work with 100% combed-cotton substrates (jersey mesh, piqué, waffle), 50/50 cotton-polyester blends, 100% recycled polyester with GRS certification, GOTS organic cotton, cotton-bamboo blends, cotton-modal blends, and elastane blends for stretch polos. When the client requires certified materials (GRS, GOTS, Fair Trade, OEKO-TEX Standard 100), we select the textile supplier with the corresponding certification and archive the certificate copy.

Threads, placement, and technical considerations

For polo embroidery, the standard threads are 40s polyester (Madeira Polyneon, Coats & Clark polyester), which withstand industrial washing at 60°C, bleach, and sunlight without color loss. 40s rayon threads (Madeira Aerofil) are softer and shinier, ideal for premium uniforms, boutique hotels, personal branding, or government uniforms, but resist industrial washing less. Metallic threads in gold and silver (Madeira Metallic, Coats & Clark Metallic) are for premium uniforms, VIP gifts, or special events, with the caveat that they do not resist aggressive industrial washing. Standard placement is left chest at 8 cm from the neckline and 8 cm from the center of the chest, in an 8 x 8 cm area for a standard logo and 10 x 12 cm for a large logo. Right sleeve is for employee name at 1,500 stitches, right chest is for employee title at 1,000 stitches, upper back is for secondary logo, phrase or tagline, and full sleeve is for decorative graphic or jersey number.

For embroidered employee names, we recommend sans-serif typography (Helvetica, Arial, Futura, Gotham) with a minimum height of 5 mm to guarantee legibility. For logos with fine details (text smaller than 3 mm), we recommend increasing density to 10-12 stitches per millimeter. For logos with gradient colors or shadows, we recommend embroidery with a limited color count (1 to 6) and selection of thread chart that most closely matches the Pantone colors of the original design. When the client requests exact color replication, we offer custom thread dyeing with MOQ of 5,000 meters. For polos with UPF 50+ UV protection, the embroidery does not affect the UV property because the thread covers a small area of the garment and UV protection is maintained across the rest of the garment.
