Merch planning for Mexican labels and artists at Sónar

Dates

17–19 June 2027 (three festival days with day programme at Fira Montjuïc and night programme distributed across the city)

Venue

Fira Montjuïc, Av. Reina Maria Cristina s/n, 08004 Barcelona, Spain

Organiser

Advanced Music (Barcelona)

Currency & invoicing

MXN pricing, CFDI 4.0 with complemento de pagos, optional USMCA routing or sea consolidation

Sónar is Europe's highest-profile electronic music and creative technology festival, and the Barcelona edition pulls industry professionals who arrive with parallel showcases, the Sónar+D congress programme, and private showcases at Fira Montjuïc and across the night circuit in Raval, Poble-sec and Parc del Fòrum. For a Mexican label in the NAAFI, Casete, Sonidos Verdaderos family or a regional collective, Sónar is where you cross paths with European bookers, allied labels, music press and summer festival programmers.

Mexican teams usually split the merch programme into four pools with separate responsibilities: tour apparel sized for the artist and technical crew for the hours before going on stage and the post-show signing line; cassettes, vinyl and numbered collector merch for the booth at the Fira and for the private showcases; tees, tote bags and notebooks for general Fira traffic and the stand zone; and a named VIP kit for the bookers, programmers and label allies who gather at the festival food court or at parallel dinners. Treating each pool as a separate queue — with art, packaging and shipping by recipient tier — is what separates a showcase that runs clean from one chasing tees in the green room.

Mexican fiscal operation applies to all merch sold or given away, and the VIP kit invoice is distinguished from the retail lot by comprobante type. CFDI 4.0 with complemento de pagos is issued from the Mexican leg, whether the shipment leaves from AICM, a consolidated flight to Barcelona or a European gateway. The invoice to the end client can be issued in MXN, EUR or USD at the exchange rate of the payment day, which protects the label's treasury when FX moves between purchase order and shipment close. For European private showcases, we can issue a local EUR invoice through a Madrid partner that respects the Spanish VAT line and keeps the Mexican side clean.

Copyright compliance and brand cleanliness are the two frameworks governing any merch that reaches the Fira booth. Artwork must respect the artist or label licensing chain, avoid any claims of association with the festival that are not documented, and confirm that the marks printed on the tour apparel have written assignment from the rights holder. For labels with catalogue distributed through global platforms, we coordinate the brand assignment with their US counsel so the merch carries clean rights and fiscal traceability on both sides of the Atlantic.

For Mexican labels that also run a European summer tour, we can run the European leg through a Madrid partner while keeping the master CFDI 4.0 in Mexico. That dual production is what has allowed Mexican labels to use the Madrid workshop for fast reprints between Sónar and a Berlin showcase, while reserving the heavy manufacturing for the Mexican hub with scale economics and clean fiscal traceability. The Spanish 21% VAT line stays clean and the label's vendor list stays single-source. If the label arrives without Barcelona logistics in place, reading the festival exhibitor manual and getting written confirmation of delivery windows are the two tasks that close the customs risk before production starts.

Production and on-site logistics

Before production starts, confirm art, Pantone references, quantities, packaging and the named recipient on site, whether at the Fira or at your hotel in Barcelona. Delivery rules, dock windows and the Fira Montjuïc loading access must be checked against the current festival manual; Fira Montjuïc should not be treated as an open courier address. For labels routing kit from Mexico through an EU hub, add a transit buffer for European customs paperwork and a hotel concierge buffer in the Eixample or Poble-sec usually makes sense alongside the direct dock drop for booth overflow.

Planning timeline

6–8 weeks: lock product list, quantities, Pantone references and the split between Mexico-produced apparel and third-party assembled cassettes or vinyl.

4–5 weeks: approve physical or production-grade sample for each line, including name embroidery and recipient-labelled packaging.

2–3 weeks: finish production, QC and recipient labelling, with CFDI 4.0 and complemento de pagos issued for the Mexican leg.

Final week: reconfirm Barcelona delivery window, named consignee, loading access and on-site contact, plus the air leg to your hotel concierge.

When should we raise the order for Sónar Barcelona?

Six to eight weeks is the safe window when production runs in Mexico and the cross-border freight leg goes to Barcelona.

Can the order ship directly to Fira Montjuïc?

Only when the festival organiser or production team has confirmed the dock slot, dock access and named consignee. Many Mexican labels split the shipment between the Fira dock and a named concierge at their Eixample or Poble-sec hotel.

Can we invoice in EUR locally for a European allied label?

Yes. We run the Spanish leg through a Madrid partner that respects the local 21% VAT line and keeps the master CFDI 4.0 in Mexico. Your vendor list stays single-source.

Is Corp-Merch a partner or official supplier of Sónar?

No. Corp-Merch is an independent external supplier that helps participating labels and artists prepare their own merch.
