Planning merch for Mexican blues musicians at the Burgos Blues Festival 2027

Dates

Autumn 2027 (the detailed programme is published four to five months in advance)

Venue

Burgos, Spain (network of halls and clubs of the festival programme)

Currency and invoicing

MXN, CFDI 4.0 with payment complement; Carta Porte 3.0 for ground shipments to the freight forwarder's warehouse in TOLUCA or AICM

Event operator

Organising association of the Burgos Blues Festival

The Castilian-Leonese circuit of blues and American-roots festivals is one of the most consolidated on the Spanish calendar, and the Burgos Blues Festival occupies a recognised place for its trajectory, its link with the European Blues Union and its specialist audience. The 2027 edition opens a specific window for bands and projects in electric blues, acoustic blues, soul, R&B and contemporary crossings with roots rock. For a Mexican musician or project — a Mexico City band mixing blues with son jarocho and roots rock, a Monterrey electric trio with Texan influence, a Guadalajara acoustic blues guitarist invited to the intimate concert cycle, a Tijuana quartet crossing blues with norteño music, or a Mexican independent label producing the European tour of a bandleader — Burgos operates as a meeting point with European programmers, with sector specialist press and with European colleagues who then sustain tours and recordings through the following season.

The merch programme of a blues band or project on a Spanish tour is different from that of an early-music festival or a performing arts festival: the audience is very specific — European blues-circuit programmers, labels such as Ruf, Alligator, Proper, Continental Blue Sky or Blue Heart, press such as Blues Matters, Blues News or Cuadernos de Jazz, long-time melomanes, subscribers of local clubs, students of regional conservatories, specialised radio such as Radio 3 or Radio Castilla — and the reading of the brand mixes the editorial, the utilitarian and the aesthetic of the blues world itself. The merch divides into four sets. The first are the physical records — vinyl or CD — of the project's latest album or a live recording from the tour, with a well-finished cover and Spanish-English liner notes, normally in runs of 200 to 500 copies that sell at the merch table and are handed to programmers and press. The second are band shirts and sweatshirts for the members and the technical team, with a compact mark that dialogues with the record's graphics and the blues aesthetic. The third are gifts for after-show sessions and night clubs: tote bags, signed posters, stickers, lighters or pins with the band mark, handed to the after-show audience as a tour follow-up tool. The fourth is material for clinics and jams, when a member of the project is invited to participate in a workshop or open jam session of the festival.

The operational challenge for a Mexican project is that the material is shipped from Mexico with the consolidated cargo in TOLUCA or AICM, and enters Europe under a freight forwarder's waybill with the import DUA already processed under temporary admission. The invoice of the order goes out in MXN with CFDI 4.0 on the Mexican leg, with payment complement if the deal closes with 30-day terms, and the CFDI includes the Carta Porte 3.0 complement when the shipment is routed by ground from TOLUCA to the forwarder's gateway in Laredo or McAllen. In Spain the delivery runs through the forwarder to the project's hotel, the club where the concert plays, the festival's common warehouse, or the invited promoter's address, and from there it is distributed to each date by concert time. When the tour covers several cities of the Castilian-Leonese, Basque or French circuit, the distribution is done with child waybills from the central European warehouse with single customs clearance.

For vinyl the production challenge is that of any well-finished independent record: final master in DDP or high-resolution WAV, European pressing plant with 140-gram pressing, gatefold or single sleeve with CMYK selection and finishes such as insert, obi or inlay, and a production time of 8 to 12 weeks for runs of 200 to 500 copies. For CD the chain is shorter: final master, replication plant with digipack or jewel case, CMYK cover with four- to eight-page booklet, and a production time of 4 to 6 weeks. For band shirts and sweatshirts the most used setup is heavy cotton with one-colour screen print for the main mark and compact embroidery for the label or band logo, in a palette that dialogues with the record's graphics and the blues aesthetic — blacks, ochres, deep blues, muted reds. For after-show and club gifts the usual is natural-cotton tote bags, screen-printed posters, stickers and pins with the band mark, handed out at the end of the concert.

If the tour also covers clinics or jams at conservatories or clubs of the circuit — a common practice for blues projects with a member of teaching profile or for guitarists invited to workshops — the merch programme extends to notebooks, pencils or pens with the band mark, and to pedagogical dossiers with the ensemble's methodology. That additional line is invoiced in the same master order so the customs and distribution operation closes as a single shipment, and the Mexican invoice includes that material in the same CFDI 4.0 with a clean per-line split, so the project's accounting can distribute the expense between the tour line, the teaching line and the press and communication line.

For VIP gifts to key European programmers — directors of the European blues-festival circuit, sector record labels, journalists of specialist publications — we usually work with curated, very short-run pieces: signed test pressings by the project leader, numbered limited editions with exclusive screen-printed art, or graphic pieces produced in collaboration with a Mexican workshop. The curating is done with the project leader and with the label's communication area, and the delivery is scheduled privately during a post-concert cocktail or during a visit to the historical archive of the festival, because the meaning of the VIP gift is to open a recording or future-tour conversation, not to appear in a public photo of the festival.

Production and shipping logistics to Burgos

Before starting production, confirm the final record master, the cover art, the runs per item, the liner-note languages, the split between production in Mexico and local delivery in each date, and the named consignee on site — the project manager, the production area of the club where the concert plays, or the festival's common warehouse. The Mexican invoice is issued with CFDI 4.0 and payment complement on the Mexican leg; the cross-border shipment is routed by ground from TOLUCA or AICM to the forwarder's gateway in Laredo or McAllen with Carta Porte 3.0 when applicable, and the final delivery in each Spanish date runs through the local forwarder. If the tour covers several cities of the Castilian-Leonese or Basque circuit, distribution is done with child waybills from the common warehouse with single customs clearance.

Planning timeline

14–16 weeks (vinyl) / 8–10 weeks (CD): close the final master, the cover art, the runs per item, the bilingual notes and the split between production in Mexico and delivery at the festival or club common warehouse.

8–10 weeks: approve physical production-grade samples for each line, including vinyl colour proof, screen-printed shirt, label-logo embroidery and after-show gift.

4–5 weeks: finish production, quality control and packing per consignee, and close the loading window at the freight forwarder's hub so the shipment leaves Mexico in time to reach the European warehouse.

Festival week: reconfirm the common warehouse, the project manager, the concert schedule and the local leg of VIP delivery in private to key programmers and labels.

Frequently asked questions

When is the right time to raise the order for the Burgos Blues Festival 2027?

For vinyl, fourteen to sixteen weeks before the tour starts because of the European plant pressing cycle. For CDs, shirts and gifts, eight to ten weeks. Shorter programmes are possible only after written confirmation of stock, marking methods and the delivery window at the club or the festival warehouse.

Can the order go directly to the club where the concert plays?

Yes, with the project manager or the club production area named in writing. The festival's common warehouse works as an alternative delivery point, and from there the material is distributed to each date of the Castilian-Leonese circuit by concert time.

Can you produce signed test pressings as a limited VIP edition?

Yes. We work with European pressing plants, runs of 50 to 100 copies, manual numbering, exclusive screen-printed art and the project leader's signature. Production takes 10–12 weeks, and the pieces are delivered privately to key programmers and labels during festival week.

Is Corp-Merch a partner or official supplier of the Burgos Blues Festival 2027?

No. Corp-Merch is an independent external supplier that helps Mexican blues bands and projects prepare their own merch for the Spanish tour. It does not organise, sponsor or represent the organising association of the Burgos Blues Festival or the clubs of its circuit.
