Corporate merch in Cancún — incentive travel and resort programs

Cancún is the country's most important incentive-travel destination and the southern anchor of the Riviera Maya corporate-events corridor. The merch programs run here look nothing like a CDMX trade-show program: they are usually tied to a five-day resort stay, they involve smaller quantities but higher unit values, and they frequently cross borders with US buyers who want the merch to follow them home. This page explains how a Cancún program is structured around the hotel zone, the Cancún Center and the convention groups that drive the calendar.

How Cancún's merch market differs from the rest of Mexico

The Cancún market is shaped by incentive travel. The buyer profile is dominated by US and Canadian companies running top-performer trips, plus the European incentive groups that visit in the November–April high season. The local hotel zone stretches along Boulevard Kukulcán for 22 kilometres of beachfront resorts; the convention calendar at the Cancún Center (Cancún ICC) runs almost continuously from October through May, with the major corporate events hosted at the Moon Palace, the Iberostar Selection, the Hyatt Ziva, the Marriott Cancun and the Hilton Cancun.

The implication for merch buyers is that the program structure is unusual. Quantity runs are smaller — typically 30–200 pieces per incentive group rather than the 500–3,000 piece trade-show runs in CDMX. Unit values are higher because the merchandise is part of the guest experience: premium leather, branded swimwear, monogrammed beach bags, personalised snorkel gear, engraved crystal and the kind of resort-welcome kits that travel home with the attendee. Lead times are tight because the merch has to be on-property before the guests arrive, and customs handling is more important because the goods often cross the US border in the guests' luggage.

Freight to the hotel zone

Freight to Cancún runs by road from CDMX (16–18 hours), by air from the AICM cargo terminal (2 hours flight, plus 1 hour ground handling) or by sea through the Punta Venado cargo terminal (used mainly for bulk hotel deliveries). For an incentive-travel program, the typical sequence is: production in CDMX or Puebla, road freight to the Cancún warehouse, on-property delivery to the bell desk 24–48 hours before guest arrival. Last-mile runs into the hotel zone use the hotel's appointed freight dock on Boulevard Kukulcán.

US-bound merch programs — for buyers who want the merchandise to follow the guests home — are routed through the Cancún customs office at the airport or through the maritime terminal at Punta Venado, with a 24-hour pedimento cycle for the temporary-import flow.

Invoicing and tax treatment

Every CUN order ships with a CFDI 4.0 stamped by SAT, broken out as productos / IVA 16% / total, paired PDF and XML, delivered alongside the physical goods. For US-destination buyers we issue a parallel commercial invoice in USD for the parent's books, with a separate line item for the SAT-compliant IVA breakdown. The hotel industry's accounting convention is to charge merch to a per-attendee line item rather than to a per-event budget, so we structure the invoice to make that split clean.

Hotel-group buyers running recurring programs typically settle on net-30 terms against a per-event PO, with a framework agreement covering the year-round program structure. For US incentive buyers we accept payment in USD via wire transfer against a parallel commercial invoice.

FAQ — Cancún merch

What is the MOQ for a Cancún incentive-travel program?

30 pieces minimum for a single incentive group, 50 pieces for cross-group buys, 100 pieces for fully custom packaging. The smaller MOQ reflects the smaller typical program size.

How fast can a hotel-zone delivery turn around?

Standard programs: 15–20 working days. Rush with screen printing or DTG: 7–10 working days, +35% surcharge. Engraved crystal and leather goods: 20–25 working days.

Do you handle individual room delivery at the hotel?

Yes — we coordinate with the hotel's bell desk and the front office to deliver individually packed kits to each guest room, with a delivery manifest that maps room number to attendee name.

Can US guests take the merch home duty-free?

Yes — the merch is sold and invoiced in Mexico, and US guests can bring it home as personal-use items. We provide a commercial invoice for the guest's customs records if requested.

Do you handle attendee data under LFPDPPP?

Yes — controller-processor agreements are standard for any program that processes attendee lists, room assignments or shipping addresses. PII is not retained beyond 90 days post-program without a separate data-processing agreement.
