Mexican Caribbean hospitality and tourism staff onboarding

The Mexican Caribbean tourism corridor (Cancun, Riviera Maya, Tulum, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres) operates more than 1,200 hotels with more than 130,000 rooms between the major groups (AMResorts with 70+ resorts, Hyatt Inclusive Collection with 40+ resorts, Marriott Inclusive Collection with 30+ resorts, Karisma Hotels & Resorts with 25+, Grupo Posadas with 20+, Grupo Xcaret with 12+). The sector employs more than 180,000 staff between housekeeping, food and beverage, front desk, maintenance and entertainment. Initial kit distribution happens within the first day to first week of activity.

Hotel staff on the Mexican Caribbean wear a corporate uniform with tropical dress code (white or light blue polo, khaki or navy trousers, bistro apron for food and beverage, baseball cap for outdoor areas), a photo badge with barcode for resort access control, identification with department and shift, and a guest service manual and code of conduct. SECTUR (Secretaria de Turismo) and NOM-08-TUR-2002 regulate tourism staff identification in Mexico.

The hotel invoices from its fiscal domicile in Cancun (Zona Hotelera, Centro, Smza 50), Playa del Carmen (Centro, Playacar, Riviera), Tulum (Centro, Zona Hotelera), Cozumel (Centro, San Miguel). CFDI 4.0 carries breakdown by badge, department and onboarding period. Deductibility operates under Article 27 LISR as hotel operations expense, supported by a badge list signed by HR and current Constancia de Situacion Fiscal. Located in the border zone, 8% IVA applies with the Border Zone complement.

Hotel corporates with multiple properties (AMResorts with resorts in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta, Huatulco, Ixtapa, Cozumel) schedule deliveries in two waves: November (preparation for the winter high season) and May (preparation for the summer season). Delivery uses specialised couriers (Estafeta, FedEx, DHL) with 1 to 2 day transit for hotels on the Cancun-Playa del Carmen-Tulum corridor.

How the kit is invoiced

Pack 155 final invoices with CFDI use I08 when charged as hotel operations expense or D02 when charged as training expense. The hotel invoices from its fiscal domicile in Quintana Roo under the general fiscal regime. The invoice carries per-badge, per-department, per-period breakdown with 8% IVA under the border zone and the Border Zone complement. For hotels in non-border areas (Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Los Cabos in BCS), 16% national IVA applies.

Hotel corporates with multiple properties issue a single consolidated invoice with per-property, per-department, per-period breakdown. Deductibility operates under Article 27 LISR as hotel operations expense, supported by a badge list signed by HR, per-property delivery receipts and current Constancia de Situacion Fiscal. CFDI 4.0 cancels automatically at the close of the fiscal period.

For hotel corporates reporting sustainability indicators (waste management, energy efficiency, carbon footprint), Pack 155 final provides supporting evidence: the washable polo reduces disposable uniform consumption, the reusable apron eliminates plastic, the USB with digital manuals replaces printing. CFDI 4.0 with breakdown of reusable pieces supports the corporate hotel sustainability report.

Hotel seasonality and staff turnover

The Mexican Caribbean hotel sector operates with two high seasons: winter (December to March, with 90% to 100% occupancy) and summer (July to August, with 80% to 95% occupancy). Hotel corporates report 25% to 40% quarterly turnover in housekeeping and food and beverage staff, with continuous flow of high and lows driving constant kit replenishment. The low season (September to November, April to June) is used for maintenance and staff turnover.

The annual contract with safety stock and 5 business day replenishment covers continuous flow of high and lows in hotel staff. Delivery is scheduled around the hiring peaks: November (winter high season), May (summer season). For urgent hires (staff starting the next day), we handle minimum lots of 20 kits with 8 to 10 business day production lead time.

Production lead time is 12 to 18 business days for runs of 100 kits or more, 18 to 22 days for runs above 500 kits. Hotel delivery uses specialised couriers with 1 to 2 day transit for hotels on the Cancun-Playa del Carmen-Tulum corridor. For outlying hotels (Cozumel, Holbox, Bacalar, Mahahual), transit is 2 to 4 days.
