SII, RUT and Chilean fiscal compliance

The Servicio de Impuestos Internos (SII) is the Chilean tax authority supervising tax compliance: it requires electronic invoicing with electronic boleta (for operations with final consumers) or electronic invoice (for operations between companies), recipient identification with RUT (Rol Único Tributario), 19% IVA breakdown (general rate), compliance with the purchases and sales information regime, and submission of Form 22 on monthly operations. Corp-Merch.MX coordinates with the corporate's accounting for electronic invoice issuance with SII stamp per SII Exempt Resolution 3318 of 2023.

The RUT (Rol Único Tributario) is the Chilean fiscal identifier equivalent to the Mexican RFC: it is composed of a correlative number and a check digit separated by a hyphen (for example 12,345,678-9). Companies issue the RUT when starting activities before the SII, and maintain it throughout their operation. Corp-Merch.MX requests the RUT of the Chilean recipient to issue the electronic invoice with complete recipient identification per SII Exempt Resolution 3318.

Copper mining, lithium and salmon

Chile operates three world-class extractive industries: copper mining (the largest in the world with CODELCO as the state company and BHP, Rio Tinto, Anglo American, Antofagasta Minerals and Glencore as main private operators), lithium (with SQM, Albemarle and the new National Lithium Strategy), and salmon farming (with AquaChile, Mowi, Cermaq and Salmones Austral as main operators). The Chile package handles provision for these industries with compliance with applicable labour norms: Labour Code for administrative employees, Law 16.744 on work accidents for mining operations employees, and Sanitary Regulation for salmon plant employees.

For copper mining in northern Chile (Antofagasta, Calama, Copiapó, Calera, Vallenar, La Serena, Copiapó), the Chile package handles logistics from the Mexican port of Manzanillo toward the Chilean port of Valparaíso and from there by land to the mining operation, with customs clearance at the Servicio Nacional de Aduanas (SNA) and compliance with Law 17.798 on Control of Arms and Explosives when the piece is delivered in a mining operations area. For lithium in the Salar de Atacama, compliance with the National Lithium Strategy and contracts with CODELCO and SQM requires additional coordination with the operations manager's office.

Logistics to Chile: ports and customs

The Chile package logistics operates by sea from the Mexican port of Manzanillo toward the Chilean port of Valparaíso (Chile's main port with connection to Santiago), or from the Mexican port of Lázaro Cárdenas toward the Chilean port of San Antonio (second port by volume). For urgent shipments, the package operates by air from Mexico City International Airport (MEX) toward Santiago International Airport (SCL). The maritime transit time from Manzanillo to Valparaíso is 10 to 14 days, and the aerial transit from MEX to SCL is 8 to 10 hours.

The piece delivered in Chile requires customs clearance with the Servicio Nacional de Aduanas (SNA) with Declaración de Ingreso (DIN) when the value exceeds USD $1,000 FOB, compliance with Economic Complementation Agreement N° 41 Chile-Mexico when applicable for preferential tariffs, and 19% IVA payment on import. Corp-Merch.MX coordinates with a Chilean customs agent for simultaneous compliance.

Run sizes, MOQ and Chile production window

The Chile package operates with consolidated runs and a 90 day production window before the first delivery. For Chile onboarding with runs from 50 units, the window closes 45 days before the first hire (typically 15 October for 1 January hires). For Chile commercial with runs from 100 units, the window closes 30 days before the launch. For Chile meetings with runs from 30 units, the window closes 30 days before the event. For mining and lithium with runs from 50 units, the window closes 45 days before operations start.

The unit cost varies by piece and run. As Chile budget reference: Chile onboarding box from MXN $1,500 before VAT in runs of 50; Chile sales force kit from MXN $1,200 before VAT in runs of 50; Chile councillor kit from MXN $3,000 before VAT in runs of 12; mining institutional uniform from MXN $1,400 before VAT in runs of 50.
